Bersa Thunder 9...

Hello. I was asked about this handgun the other day, but couldn't give a "real" answer as I've never handled one, much less shot one. I know the little Bersa 380s and .22s are plentious and have owned and shot them on several occassions, but I've never even seen a "Thunder 9." If any of you have first-hand experience with this Bersa handgun, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you. I'm interested in its reliability, accuracy, quality, ergonomics, etc. Thanks in advance and best to all.

Gun Tests, some time back did a test of the "budget" priced (read "POS") guns, and gave the Bursa 9mm a pretty good report -- all things considered.

I doubt that its durability is very good, but it has a good warranty, but its accuracy is only mediocre, at best. Reliability was OK. I think you'd do better with a used 9mm of some other brand -- but there are worse guns out there.

If I were you, I'd check out some of the Stars that are availble for $250 +/-, NIB, the Kel-Tec P-11, or a good, top-quality used S&W revolver in .38 special or .357 before I'd buy a Bersa.

Have one. It's a nice gun. Essentially a copy of a Walther P-88 with a hammer-drop safety. Nowhere near the quality workmanship of the Walther (which I have one to compare against) but built a little above average. Considerably better than a Star or Astra.

Since it is not as tight as the Walther (the P-88 is one of the tightest guns I have, very little to no play in any of the moving parts), it does feed better. The top rear of the grip is slimmer than the Walther, which is the only drawback of the P-88 for me. Even has an adjustable trigger stop. Like the Walther, the trigger in double action is a bit long but very smooth.

I like it. Glad I bought it before the hi-cap ban.
