Bersa Owners

Looking at a new Two-tone Bersa .380 (lightweight), not sure of the model. I've read many good comments on the late model Bersa's in previous threads. Was hoping some of the Bersa owners on the list could share their experiences (good & bad) with me before I put down the cash. Any info on accuracy, reliability and durability (finish and mechanical) would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

Well, since you asked for good & BAD ... About two decades ago I bought my very first firearm -- a Bersa in .22LR. I rarely could get through a magazine without at least one jam. Ended up trading it in less than a year later.

I think the calber may have had something to do with FUD's bad experience. It's always been my understanding that their .380's are good guns though.

anyways... just what I heard,

I have a Thunder 380 two tone. I really like the gun. I have out about 500 rounds through it and it is very reliable with everything I have fed it so far. Accuracy has been very good so far. I can shoot about less than 1 1/2 inch groups at 7 yards. I think that is very acceptable for this gun.

I like the way the gun looks and feels. So far I have been very pleased with it. I think for the money it is one of the better deals out there.

I have the series 95 (380) in nickle. Great gun! feeds everything. Accurate. Light weight. The Thunder and the 95 are essentially the same gun just a cosmetic change.
I think the importer (eagle) now offers a lifetime warranty.
BTW,,,, the new Firestorm 380 is a Bersa. The importer just opened a new division and is importing Llama 45's & Bersa 380's under one name brand.

Dear Sarge
I own two Bersa pistols. One is a model 95 Thunder .380 (most common around) and an older Model 86. The older model and the newer one are very well built, reliable, and accurate. They are also easy to clean and maintain. I've never had a bad feed or ftf in either pistol. The Model 86 even holds 13 shots in the staggered clip. It is evidentally quite rare as I haven't spoken to anyone who has ever seen one before. Wouldn't it be a big surprise to any BG if he was counting rounds fired?

All I can tell you is that for the money, it is as good as if not equal to a PPK in very repect. It even fits my hand better although I'd like to find some rubber grips to replace the hard plastic ones. My daughter loves to shoot it and is quite good with it at 7 yards and improving at 15 yards. The price is right, too! You could have two Bersas for the price of one very nice PPK.

Sarge, I have an older Bersa 83 .380. I bought the gun used.I can't say a bad thing about it. It has never failed or jammed. I do
use it for a carry gun. :)
Hope this helps :)

Happy Shooting :)

Now for the good...

I have a Bersa 223DA in .22 LR and it is absolutely reliable and accurate to boot.

This one was made about 10 years ago, and has a genuine blue finish and all steel contstruction.

I personally believe the Bersa pistols are the most underrated line of guns imported into the USA. I've owned 8 over the years without a clinker in the bunch. Still have 6 if memory serves. The B23 in 22lr is just shy of 17,000 rounds through it and has never! malfunctioned. It's blackbird accurate out to 30 yards or so, a delightful 22 pistol. The 380's have been just as good though an early B83 needed a ramp polishing job before it'd go to work.
As an aside, I did have a factory cartridge [ not one of ours ] blow the slide right off a B83 [ BANG and I'm holding the frame alone ]. Bersa replaced it without a qustion nearly instantly. IMHO, these are dang good pistols, well made of good stuff, with decent triggers, good frame to slide fit, and quite accurate barrels. TM

I've been intrigued to read how everyone lately seems to think highly of Bersa. When I managed a gun store for a couple of years after college ('88-'90), we had a couple come through. Neither worked, and it was a real hassle. Like 3x to the 'smith, hassle. I took one of them out to the range and was shocked to find that it would not consistently feed *ball* ammo. So, since then, I'd pretty much considered them to be junkers.

However, when I recently brought up (in a couple of different threads) that I was considering delving back into pocket pistols, many TFLers heartily recommended the Bersa (which surprised me). So, maybe those Argentines've turned it around. Sarge55, I'm glad you ran this thread, because it sure seems from the responses that the new ones are just fine.

I'm with FUD. Had a Bersa Thunder 22 and my range's Thunder 380 broke its safety and we noticed it was made of pot metal. The Thunder 22 jammed every other mag and was not accurate even though it had a fixed barrel.

Sold it for a Ruger 22/45 in 22lr.

DON'T. Save your money.
