Bersa .380

Anyone have any experience with the Bersa .380. I have a chance to get one at a real reasonable price and thought it would be a fun pistol. Your thoughts and experiences appreciated.

Ravenwolf,

I own a Bersa Thunder 380. I bought it in a hurry on a tip from a friend. And let me tell you: for a little league pistol, it has sure earned my respect. Very reliable, accurate, and all those cliches you just love to hear in a gun that size. My choice for the CHL proficieny test.

A great investment for the money.

BERSA PISTOLS, HUH...WELL LET ME TELL YOU, MY FRIEND,

BERSA'S ARE THE MOST UNDERRATED LINE OF GUNS IMPORTED INTO THIS COUNTRY. PERIOD.

You will love it!

I own a Firestorm, which, if you look at bersa's website at www.bersa-llama.com, you'll see firestorm right next to it. It's a clone, and I have never had a lick of trouble with it. As a matter a fact, I carried it today concealed to go out in public. I would get one. Like that guy said, they're so underrated its pathetic. They are a very reliable gun, and get many people's respect after they fire it.

Actually, the FireStorms ARE Bersas and not clones.

Exactly, they just have Firestorm written on the side. However, my clips won't fit a Bersa and vice versa, the grip is different and thus the clip is also different. The only gripe I have is that magazines are 25 bucks a pop.

Is the bersa strictly DA, or DA/SA action? And how would you owners rate / evaluate the DA/SA triggers?

Does the FireStorm .380ACP have a manufacturing location stamped on the side of the frame or slide? (The stamps are identical between my MiniFireStorm 9 and Bersa Thunder9.)

Hmm, you can cock it without shooting it, I'm kinda new to these terms I'm not sure, so I guess it is a DA/SA. I think the trigger pull for the first round uncocked is a little tough, but after that she's right there for all follow up rounds.

I also used it to obtain my concealed handgun permit, and shot better than all the .45 cal. guys in my class.

I also like the fact that it has a "half safety" where you can locate the safety thing so it's much easier to get off of safety, yet still can't be fired, although if you pull the trigger the hammer will operate, but it will smack the safety thing instead of the firing pin. It also will not operate without the clip, a nice safety feature. A great little gun all in all!

Yes, I would call the Bersa a DA.

You can make the first shot DA if you use the decocker. The DA pull on the one I tried was pretty stiff. Which I hear is normal for PPK-type pistols. Subsequent shots will be SA, which is a pretty nice trigger pull on the one I tried.

I like the manual of arms. Insert a mag, put the safety/decocker on, then rack the slide (pointing in a safe direction). You now have one in the chamber, a safety on, and the hammer down.

To get into action, you draw, flick off the safety as the pistol comes up, then take the first DA shot. Very safe, but quick to action. I like it.

Thanks for the responses

Everyone and so quick to. I'll go and purchase it tomorrow. And Terry keep up the good reviews....RW

Ravenwolf, I have an older model Bersa Md#83. It's a PPK styled pistol and I believe it to be a good gun for the money ;) I use mine for a CCW and believe it reliable for the purpose:)

Hope this helps;)

Ravenwolf, you will not regret it. Just don't use any of that hot +p+ ammo in it, it's not recommended. I use hydrashok's in mine for personal defense, and I am satisfied it will make an attacker think twice.

7+1 of Hydroshoks will absolutely make a BG think twice! I have one as well and I agree with all the positive comments...you won't regret getting a Bersa,
Tony.

Now I have a question.

Everyone here seems to think that the Bersa is a very underrated gun and a great value. How do you think it compares to the Makarov or the FEG PA63 in 9x18? They are also considered great guns- accurate, reliable durable- that are also very good values (online I've seen the FEGs for $130 on gunbroker and for well under $100 wholesale). The 9x18 round is a little more powerful but the fact that .380 ACP (9x17) is much easier to find around here is a factor for me.

Note to self- cut back on the forum. Getting too many ideas there. Must stop adding guns to my list considering lack of funds and space.:D

Have a Bersa Super Thunder .380 15 rounder. Accurate little bugger but will eat only FMJ. Have no complaint here.

Excellent Gun

Ravenwolf,
THis was my first pistol two years ago and I was such a novice that I didn't know about cleaning / oiling, etc.
Now, after probably 2000 rounds thru my Bersa Thunder 380 and only two cleanings, it's still a great gun!
Would you call that "low maintenance"...?
I now take great care of it, because it has not had one hiccup, FTF, FTE, etc.
I'm back to carry'g my Bersa 24/7 after my Kel-Tec P-11 started giving me fits of unreliability. (I've got a Glock #G26 on order, so it will probably get the nod then.)
You won't regret the purchase.
