berrys 223 help

Hey guys I need some help. I purchased berrys 223 fmj Bt bullets and I can get hornady fmj bt to shoot under an inch at 100yards but the berrys last night some would shoot almost touching and some would have flyers.

right now I'm seating them to where they are just off the lands. benchmark powder, lc brass, cci 450 primers. I worked up from 22gr to 23.3 grs and 23.3 shot the best but still like a 2.5 inch group out of a bolt action.

haven't checked that. measured them and some are a little longer than the others so QC isn't the best I'm guessing.

Are they FMJ or hollow point match? The latter are almost never consistent on length due to the tip form. I've measured .30 call 150 grain Sierras as shown below, with .00135" extreme spread in length. But they shot just fine.

The first problem is I gather that Berry's sells bullets to Cabella's and others that they don't sell through their web site, and any sort of BT .224 bullet would be such a thing, so I have no data on what you have; no weight, no length, no base diameter at the end of the boattail. Further, I don't know what rifling twist or barrel length you have, so I can't guess at the gyroscopic stability factor you are achieving, either.

All that said, bullets have to be well-balanced to shoot well and the seating depth often has to be tuned. There is no such thing as one "best" amount of jump to the lands; it varies with the gun, as this Berger Tech Talk article describes.

Is all your cases the same length and are they all the same make?? That will make a different if you are shooting targets If not trim them all the same and match up all of your cases!!!

Quality control!!!!!!!!
Back in 2008/9, I bought a very large lot of .223 FMJ bullets at a very economical price. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!
I should have paid more for Hornady as the el-cheapo bullets lacked uniformity in shape, weight, length, and of course shot patterns rather than groups. Now, my ammo storage contains several thousand rounds of "muzzle contact range accuracy" ammo.

All LC 07-04 cases trimmed to the same length. my OAL was all over from 2.235-2.240 so I'm guessing the bullets aren't all the same length. I checked all cases and they are all same length.

Nick-1-9 twist savage axis bull barrel.
