I am thinking of trading my Taurus in for Berreta because they are of better quality I have heard. My question is would a full cap Taurus mag work in berreta? Also I am planning on getting a full size Berreta I heard there was some new one out vertex I think its called are there any advantages of these and will they hold hi caps form a 92.

thanks

Just For A Laugh!

Some poster's here on TFL say, "there's no difference,
cuz Beretta's go out the front door; and Taurus goes
out the back door".:D LOL All joke's aside, I think the
Beretta is a better quality gun.:) Go ahead, and make
the trade.

In a recent gun test, GUN TESTS MAGAZINE (one of the few that doesn't sell advertising) actually gave the Taurus 92 a better review than the Beretta 92, also tested in that article. (Both shot about the same, but the Taurus was much less expensive.)

Taurus has slowly improved quality over the years, until their revolvers are slowling becomnig top notch, and the pistols are getting much better.

(That said, I think their Millenium series leaves a lot to be desired.)

Berettas are unquestionably prettier, and when compared side-by-side with a Taurus, look almost like a custom gun. And some of the new Beretta 92 variants, like the Elite and the Border Marshal, are very enticing.

You won't really hurt yourself, either way.

I have an Italian 92 compact and a US made E2.

I have never shot or disassembled a Taurus.

The workmanship (from a visual standpoint) on the US made guns leaves much to be desired when compared to the Italian guns.

Keep the Taurus because of the hi-caps. You don't want to lose the 'lock-open" feature. Otherwise, stick with Beretta mags on a Beretta.

What are you looking for in terms of relaibility? Has your Taurus ever failed you before in any way?

Well, has far as looks is concerned I have the s/s Taurus with the pearl handle and the gold accents. I know I will get laughs about it being a pimp gun but hey I like the way it looks. well I never shot it since doing so would decrease my trade value. Once I decide either I want to keep it or trade I then I will shot it. I dont use it has a daily carry for that I have my g26. but in my house it is kept loaded (no kids) and I wouldn't want a gun that could fail that is why I bought the Glock over the Taurus millennium. And form what I heave read here I dont know how reliable the Taurus is.

Factory Taurus magazines WILL NOT work in Beretta magazines, and vice-versa, simply because their mag cut-outs are different than Berettas. Although the differences are subtle, it is still enough that neither magazine will lock up with the mag catch on the opposing pistol. However, Triple K did make some magazines that had both cut-outs, and would therefore function in both guns. I have tried some of these in my Beretta, and they work fine. I have even taken a factory Taurus hi-cap mag, modified the cut-out, and it also worked/functioned flawlessly in my Beretta. I'm not sure of the legality of this, but I really don't care.

Anyway, I have owned both Taurus and Beretta 92s, and I think both of them are excellent pistols. The Taurus pistol isn't machined or assembled as well as the Beretta, but this is of no concern because I never had a problem with the Taurus I owned. It would feed and shoot any ammo I tried, and was combat accurate. Actually, I kind of prefer the frame mounted decocker of the Taurus, which allows the pistol to be carried cocked-and-locked. Given the right price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Taurus.

Another vote for Beretta.
I have had nothing but fun shooting my 2 Italian Berettas & recently added an American made one to the mix. :D

I would keep the Taurus. The steel autos are a solid and good gun. My 40 was mechanically perfect. The Berettas I have been fortunate enough to fondle and shoot were also great. For the price and mag issue...keep it. They are basically the same gun, with a possible negligible quality difference. I am getting another Taurus. Because I want to.

Shoot well

There is absolutely nothing "wrong" with a Taurus. As long as it functions and tends to be accurate enough for the purpose, who really cares if someone else makes a product of slightly better (fit and finish) quality?

There are Taurus PT-92/PT-99 handguns out there just like yours (save the grips and accents :D ) that have seen tens of thousands of rounds, running along side-by-side with Berettas.
My PT-99 with thousands of rounds on the trip is heading in that direction. I've never experienced one firearm related malfunction (for this reason, it's actually "more reliable" than my Kimber or G19).

Unless you feel self-conscious about using a Taurus at the range, then there's absolutely no reason to switch besides "pride of ownership" or to keep up with the Joneses, but if that's the case, you'd better save up to replace that Chevy Suburban with a Cadillac Escalade too. ;)

Snowdog...

Is there such a thing as Beretta envy amongst Taurus owners? :D

After all, Berettas seem to get most of the ink. Beretta owners may not be that exposed to the Taurus 92/99 line, but Taurus owners have to live with the "oh you got the cheaper alternative" line all the time.

Happy Taurus owner

Hi,
Jason280, Did that modified Taurus Mag still work in the Beretta?
I'm asking because I'd like to use the Taurus pistol in conjunction with the KelTec sub2000 when it's available in Beretta config.
Thanks

Berretta and Taurus Factory Mags are NOT interchangeable. There are aftermarket mags that are, however. The difference is in the slot for the mag release. The front of the Taurus mag is also slightly more rounded than the Berretta.
Taurus pistols are a Berretta derivative (licensed) and originally built on used Berretta production equipment left over from a Brazilian Government contract. I have owned both, and like both. They are not really great target guns, having military style clearances and tolerances (grab the barrel and watch it wiggle in the frame), but I can reliably shoot 15 shot groups under 4" with the Taurus 99 at 50'. I have not gotten used to the different trigger on the Berretta M9 and do much worse.
Remember Taurus has the better warrantee and go get whichever you really like and can afford.

I have both, they are both alright pistols. The biggest problem with the Taurus is the triggers pull weight. I have many pistols made by Taurus and they have all a noticeably heavy trigger pull weight.

Cheaper Than Dirt still sells the 15-round aftermarket mags for beretta/taurus 92 for about $12 each (I've got 8 of them and they work fine. They also hold 16 - 17 rounds of 9mm). So, don't let mags dictate your choice. I agree that if you like the Taurus, keep it and just buy a Beretta. If you don't like the Taurus, get rid of it.

It has been a while so I'm guessing you've already decided either way but I'm going to throw in my .02 on this issue for anyone else thinking about Beretta or Taurus PT92/99.

I don't really think of this as a Beretta OR Taurus issue. They are both well made guns that will last a while. The Taurus is based on the Beretta with a couple changes like the frame mounted safety that works as a decocker AND allows condition one carry if you want (I think this is an improvement). The Beretta is a Beretta.

I don't see the Taurus as a cheaper alternative to the Beretta. Yes, it is based on the Beretta and is cheaper. But is does have some improvements (see previous paragraph). The Taurus very prominantly says that it is a Taurus all over the slide. The Taurus is a very well made gun but the fit and finish doesn't match Beretta. I say get the Taurus if you like the looks and features and just want a good gun. However, if you really want a Beretta (collector, the name, want the original, etc) you won't be happy with the Taurus as a substitute (you want a Beretta and it isn't a Beretta) so get the Beretta. I once bought the Ruger P89 (9mm) instead of the P90 (.45) that I really wanted because it was cheaper and ammo was much cheaper and I wasn't happy until I bought a .45, buy what you want if you can afford it!

My vote (eventually what I'm going to do myself as well):
Get both. The Beretta to have a Beretta, the Taurus as a well made bargain with some nice extra features.

Keep the Taurus because the safety on the Beretta works the wrong way! Just kidding, personally I hate slide mounted safetys and find the frame mounted one on the Taurus much better. The Taurus PT92/99 series seems to be the best semi autos that Taurus makes. When you hear people complain about Taurus it never seems to be about that line of guns, almost always the newer poly frame models.

If there's nothing wrong with your Taurus you won't be gaining anything by switching to the Beretta other than the safety in a different spot and cosmetic differences (better bluing on the Beretta, better polish etc). 100% reliable is 100% reliable wether you spend $600 for a Beretta or $400 for a Taurus (don't quote me on the prices).

It's your decision but I'd keep the Taurus and get something other than the Beretta so I'd have 2 intead of trading one for the other and shelling out cash besides.
