I was jsut wathcing Jackie Chan's Who am I? and in the movie, the takes the slide off what looks like a berretta with one hand in one quick motion.

i know it wasn't a camera trick, but was the gun prepped? ie did he start with the gun in a operatable state? just wondering. I think he did it in Rush Hour also.

You can flip the takedown lever around and pull the slide off a Beretta 92, but it is extremely hard to do with a full magazine in place. I've tried it with my 92FS a few times. You need to be quick as greased lightning, and you have to have an opponent who doesn't mind holding the gun straight and still so you can grab it, rotate the lever on the frame and pull off the slide. Not a likely scenario in real life...

Jackie has quick hands. but the scenes are obviously choriographed (sp?) all the scenes in Jackie's movie which involve stunts like that are because he does his own stunts.

in "Who am I" the gun had to be rigged. well first of all it was a taurus not a beretta but its the same thing in how it functions. :-)

the BG pulled the trigger and nothing happened. then when you looked at the gun the disassemble latch was in the downward position which is where it goes when you take the gun apart. when you do this the slide goes forward a bit and then all you have to do is pull of the slide. but the slide was in the right spot which couldn't happen. also right before the BG pulled the trigger you saw the gun with the disasseble latch in the upward position. so it doesn't make sense and couldn't happen.

however in Rush Hour and Leathal Weapon 4 that could happen. it is possible to rip the slide off the frame but is highly unlikely of ever happening.

first off you should never let the gun get close enought to a threat to allow him to do that. also if the BG slips and doesn't do it quite right he's dead. i know i couldn't do it that fast and there is no need to worry about it.

also if you are trained enough there are other things you could do to the gun besides ripping the slide off such as grabbing the gun out of the guys hands and pointing it back at him. if you are trained well enough you may be able to do this. again though don't ever let a threat get close enough to you to find out if he can do this or not.

He grabs it. 3 things can happen:

He gets it all.

You keep it all.

You each get a worthless half (very unlikely).

1-1-1.

Any other gun:

He gets it all.

You keep it all.

1-1.

Not much real difference?

For you folks that just gotta worry about something, Beretta makes a replacemnt take down lever that prevents it, period.
