Berreta Model 1934

I looked at one and decided that, as a collector piece, it is nice and intersting. As a user, it seemed over-complicated. Magazines and spare parts may be hard to find but it is a nice gun otherwise and, AFAIK, was made into 1960s commercially.

I had a friend who had one (back in my college days, lo those many years ago). I remember it had a horrible trigger, but somehow it was astonishingly accurate. Like the most accurate .380 I'd seen (not a giant feat - sorta like being the best ballerina in Lubbock) at that time. I recall 1" 5-shot benchrested groups at 50', which seems hard for me to believe now, but I'm pretty sure that's what it would do. Maybe it was a fluke. Don't remember a thing about reliability.

Anyway, funny you should mention them: I looked one over at a gun store this weekend and was pretty impressed with the finish and quality of machining. I think my friend's was a wartime piece, and it wasn't much to look at. I really liked the one I looked at this weekend (I wouldn't mind owning one at all), but I don't need a .380 and this one was pretty seriously overpriced in my estimation. I could use a pocket gun, but this was heavier than my Glock 33, with not nearly the oomph.

Tom, if you pick the 1934 up, let us know how you like it!

Long time lurker - first time poster. Might be able to finally contribute something useful :)

I recently put about 200 rounds of WIN 95 gr FMJ through a 1936 M1934. Italian Army issue; I believe 1936 was the first year the M1934 in 380 was built.

My impressions:

Positive: solidly built. Reasonably accurate out to 10 yards. Once the pistol was cleaned and oiled no feed problems using TripleK mags. (TripleK is not my favorite, but it was all I could find.)

Negative:

Straight blowback design that tosses the casing out the top (don't wear a V-neck shirt when firing this one :) ). Firing the pistol was not fun - the grip bit on recoil, and after about 25 rounds I had to rest Mr. Hand for awhile. Worst feature was the magazine release. Unlike other designs, on this M1934 it is located on the bottom of the grip and is a bear to operate. You have to pull it back while pulling the magazine out at the same time.

Hope this helps.
