Berreta 92 question

Interesting thought. I just held an M1911 magazine up to my Beretta 92FS. The grip on the Beretta is longer than the 7 round M1911 mag. So a 8 or 9 round single stack would fit in a 92FS frame. Maybe with some creative engineering, a "semi staggered" mag could be made in 9 or 10 rounds of .45acp and fit in the same sized frame as a 92FS. Would I buy one? Probably not. While I love my 92FS, I love my M1911 more.

The gun would need to be redesigned from top to bottom. Bigger barrel, which would lead to a bigger slide, and a bigger frame. Look at Glock or S&W M&P's .45 pistols, they are bigger in just about every way than their 9mm or .40 counterparts.

IMO most newbies will go for a 9mm. No all metal autoloading pistol in 45ACP has been able to approach the 1911. S&W tried with several models, all are discontinued. They gave in and joined the 1911 bandwagon. :(

The M&P 45 is actually thinner in the grip than the 9/40 versions. The frame and slide are the same thickness.

Glocks, yes. M&P's, no.
