Beretta

Hi all, does anyone own or have experience with the beretta brigadier? I'm looking for some opinions on this handgun. Thanks

I have a Berretta Elite II which has a Brigadier slide.

A standard Brigadier is pretty much just a standard Beretta M9/92FS but with a different slide that is modified to provide extra reinforcement in the area of the slide where the locking block cuts "weaken" it. The slide is a little heavier as a result. Beretta suggests that it provides extra durability, but slide failures aren't really common the 92/96 models.

Brigadier slides also have dovetailed front sights (probably the most concrete benefit the Brig slides offer since it simplifies night-sight installation), and it's more common to find them made with the "G" type (decock only) operating system. I can't verify that all Brigadier slides are G type slides, but it seems that most of them are.

I had a Brigadier back in the early 70s that fed everything reliably, but it was just too long of a grip for me so I sold it off. It used a modified Walther dropping block lock, which carried over to the 92 series of handguns. It was truly a beautifully made gun, though.

The Egyptians thought enough of it to produce a copy of it, the Helwan.

Steyr imported some "commercial" Helwans in the 80s that had some of the worst polishing I have ever seen on a new gun.

I believe Beretta made some Brigadiers for the Israelis, as well.

I think we are talking about 2 very different time frame Beretta Brigadiers. First one is a single stack pre-92, the second a "heavy duty" 92.

We don't actually whose mistake it is yet. :D

There's no way to tell from the OP which pistol he's asking about...
