Beretta vs. Sig

Looking at a .40 and have narrowed the search down to these two in a fullsize. Any opinions/experiences out there?

Anything Sig, hands down.

Thanks for the info guys. I just read some info that said the .40 cal Berettas have jamming problems. That and your input have helped me make up my mind. I will get the Sig :)

Its like choosing between the homecoming queen in florida or the homecoming queen in california--you dont lose either way.

i don't know about the reliability of the .40 berettas but i have first hand experience of the reliability of the 9mm ones.

my beretta 92FS and 92G Elite have proved extreemly reliable in many of thousands of rounds. i have never had a single hickup from the 92FS in over 2,500 rounds.

also they are very accurate and feel good in my hand. what more could i ask for in a full sized gun.

sigs are extreemly accurate and maybe a bit more so than berettas but i feel that they come in 3rd in reliability next to beretta and glock. also sigs durability is much less than the other 2 gun companies i have mentioned.

all that being said you will be quite well armed with either of these fine handguns.

I have a Beretta 92 FS and a Sig 225. They are both very good. I could not see any differences between the two. Reliability, accuracy... they both shoot very well. Only thing is the grip of the Beretta is kind of big for my small hands that is the main reason why I got my Sigs 225. I am pretty happy with both. Different strokes for different folks. Neither Beretta nor Sigs are bad.

Honestly, the Sig 229 is the ONLY Sig I really like. I could use a 228 and 232 also but will NEVER pay the asking price for them. If the Sig you're looking at isn't the 229, then I vote for the Beretta 96 or Cougar 8040. The Cougar might be the better Beretta if you plan on carrying. The three guns I listed are all very classy firearms.

Either way ... ENJOY!

The INS/BP (Immigration and Naturalization Service/Border Patrol) did a T&E of 40 pistols that was more extensive than anybody has ever done (including the military, FBI, DEA). The top gun was 3 times as reliable as the second place gun, and 5 times as reliable as the 3rd place gun.

They picked the Beretta Brigadier for issue, authorized the SIG 229 as an option. Lately they decided to issue the USP compact to plainclothes agents.

You do the math.

All that said and done, I have tried em all, and I like the SIGs the best in my hand. The USP and Beretta are next. Glock brings up the rear. Can't really go wrong with any of them.

As always, YMMV. Mine did.

Beretta claims that the average frame life for a 92FS is 35K. They purport that the oversized slide release abssorbs the recoil thereby extending the life of the aluminum frame. Per Beretta, the design of the slide release on the Sig imparts more of the recoil concusion to the Sig frame accounting lower average frame lifes.

I like both but I will add that there are no stamped or cast parts on the Beretta-----all machined from a solid mass of metal. The locking block is a bit of a hassle at first but I think there is merit to Beretta's claim about a more durable slide.

You will be well-served by both. Keep in mind that Sig is on the rocks financially and up for sale.

Try both and decide which fits best in your hand. Berettas are quite chuncky and their thick grip is uncomfortable for some. The P229 has a slimmer grip and trigger reach is easier.

I don't rely on what agencies choose to issue as a barometer to determine my purchases. That INS chose the Beretta doesn't mean it'll work for you. The Secret Service chose the P229, that doesn't mean it's a better pistol for you. Both companies make excellent products, it's really a matter of what you prefer.

So many pistols, so little money.
