Beretta Tomcat

Well, I am kind of gettin interested in this little thing. I have done a search and opinions are A or B, hot or cold, and about 50/50. I would like to know if you think the reliability has truly improved, since its introduction. Also, there are several "types" available, like the Tomcat, Alleycat, and Widebody. Various finishes and either an oversize or smaller safety. My big question is how much does the widebody weigh? And how wide is wide? I think I am going to rent one this weekend. Is there a certain serial # to avoid like that on the earlier NAA Guardian? Thanks ya'll.

The old ones were horrid (except Tamara's ;) ), the new ones have been getting decent reviews. IIRC, new widebody models got the best reliability scores...I think.

Your best shot for a reliable out-of-the-box Tomcat is indeed a newer "widebody". Don't dryfire, stay away from Fiocchi and Cor-Bon, and it'll treat you right. A shade bigger than the other .32's but much, much easier to fire accurately, IMHO.

So, this widebody is only wider at the slide, correct? Looking things over at the Beretta website, it looks like now there is a titanium frame as well. Is the widebody available with either the alum frame or the titanium? And the weights look different. There is a 14.5oz. wt. listed and a 16.9oz wt. So, what is what? I am a total blank slate when it comes to the Beretta's.

They're all "Widebodies" now. They just added a little width to the slide, making it as wide as the grips; brings the slide velocity down and increases durability.

The titanium frame one is actually heavier than the standard Tomcat (which has an aluminum frame), but will last longer.

I have a newer model tomcat that I use for pocket carry. I've only put approx 500 rounds through it, but only had two stoppages by other people who were limp wristing - never failed with me. Works well with winchester white box, hornady custom, and glaser. Decently accurate considering the size.

Two things I don't like. The weight - it is pretty darn heavy for pocket carry when fully loaded (that's why I have a Kel-Tec on the way). Secondly, when I put in a fully loaded magazine and then take it out, the top round is pointed kind of downward toward the front of the magazine. As a matter of fact, when I try and push the top round out with my thumb it hits the magazine and is hard as heck to get out. In actual use, it has always loaded fine, but I always keep a round nose bullet on the top of the mag just in case, regardless of what I'm carrying in the rest of it. Damnable semi-rimmed case! Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?
