Beretta Titanium Tomcat

Kentucky Rifle

New member
I know that when Tomcats first came out they had lots of problems. Then the wider, stainless model came out and several people told me it was a good pistol. Also, I read several complementary magazine articles regarding it's reliability. Now Beretta is supposed to be coming out with a titanium model next month. This may be the Tomcat that I'll have to add to my little collection. What I'd like to know is just how many TFLers have the later model stainless Tomcats and are happy with them?

Thanks,
Will

I thought the Titanium Tomcats have already come out? Are there more rounds in the Widebody, or is it just a name change? I can't see any reason to make it any widser otherwise.

They made them wider because the guns were breaking after fewer than 1000 rounds. The wider guns simply have more width in the slide and frame areas to make up for the additional power of the 32 on a 22lr design.

I looked at a stainless Tomcat a couple of days ago.

I was, quite frankly, UNDER impressed with the size and bulk of the gun. It felt like I was holding onto a brickbat.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Let me get this straight. It's wider. What in the hcek are they thinking? Then it would not be a subcompact or pocket gun - now a compact and you might as well get a 9mm.

Bad move and a waste of your money.

The widebody Tomcat is easily the most comfortable and accurate .32 mousegun I've ever shot. It's actually fun to shoot. However, it's not been completely reliable. The first two mags or so shoot fine, but then I have FTFs until I clean off the feed ramp. I'll probably get around to sending it in for service, eventually. For me, the Tomcat is mostly a "stick in the pocket while hanging around the house" gun, so I'm not extremely dependent on it. If you're looking for a serious everyday pocket carry weapon, I'd go for a J-frame before the Tomcat or any .32.

A while back I was on Beretta's site, and I'm thinking it said that the titanium gun weighed MORE than the stainless. If so, what's the point of it?

Remington M-51 is the most reliable, comfortable, and accurate 32 I've ever fired owned or fired. Followed by CZ27 and Kel-Tec 32. IMHO, the Beretta is a nice concept but for the fact they jumped into the market with a flawed gun and still haven't fixed it. I own one of the early guns for kicks but think it's not as comfortable as even the Kel-Tec. That's my opinion of course.

Without Browning, we might not know about the other two...

I have one of the original Tomcats and like it, but the slide cracked and had to be replaced. The Kel Tec is lighter, smaller and so far more durable. I like its trigger better too.

Here's another vote for the mighty little Kel-Tec P-32. I cary one daily as a LEO backup gun and its flat, very light (6.6 oz) and reliable. Keep the unreliable short lived Beretta. I own two 21A's and a 950BS and they are nice little guns, but then the Kel-Tec is flatter, lighter and shoots a larger round.

Haven't seen the Titanium model, but am not interested. Have the standard model, and find it too wide and too heavy already for pocket-carry, though carried it for almost two years w/o any problem. Did like the tilt barrel feature. Just bought a new NAA Guardian and like it so far.

Guys,
I own both a P-32 and a Guardian. I just thought a titanium Tomcat would be neat to add to my little collection. But not if it is going to be heavier than a stainless one and certainly not if it's going to be unreliable. I like the "tip-up" barrel feature (own a Jetfire) and I figured the titanium model would be first class. I guess I'd better wait for a while and read some reviews before I buy.
It's a bad thing to buy an unreliable pistol. My consience just wouldn't let me trade off a lemon that might get someone killed when they were fighting for their life.
