Beretta Storm .40

I'm curious to read how you owners of the Beretta Storm, in .40 S&W caliber, like your pistol as a carry gun.

• Does it perform to your expectations?

• Any issues with function?

• Are the sights as is, adequate enough for you?

• Would you prefer to have an adjustable rear sight?

• Does the .40 S&W caliber serve your needs well enough?

I haven't had any Beretta Storm pistols cross my bench so my experience with these handguns is very limited, and I'd appreciate any posts involving your concerns, and certainly any praises you have for this pistol.

Thanks

Owned 2 Beretta Storms, one in 9 mm and one in 40 S&W. They both were early production guns. Both are good accurate shooters. The 9 mm developed an issue with the decocker only working from the right side lever only which is strange considering the left and right lever are on the same shaft and work in unison. Both guns were de-cock only. The 9 mm also had a little over 1/16" of up and down play when you grabbed the slide at the back of the gun with a fully loaded magazine in place. Sold it off. The 40 S&W had one horrendous trigger sting. 2 magazines into a range trip and I was done. Tried grease on the barrel rotating lug and still after the second mag my finger would be numb. Sold it and moved on. Other than the issues the guns shot very well. Would I try a newer production model, no. I'll stick with the 92's

Been singing the praises of my PX4 .40 for years. Nearing the 10,000 round mark and I've had one misfeed ever, a failure to return to battery with a reload.

Recoil is powderpuff, accuracy is solid. Mine is great. :)

As I understand, the design did not fare well against the Sig P320, HK VP9, and Smith & Wesson M&P in a Texas DPS trial recently, but I know mine works.

D-ric902, that looks nice!

I absolutely love mine, especially since it's a "D" Model, even though it is 9mm and not .40 (though my old Stoeger Cougar was).

Conceals IWB well also, even with a white t-shirt and the extended base plate magazine (for demo purpose only).

SGW, my PX4 is in .45 and I don't carry it, so perhaps I can't tell you everything you're looking for. I've shot them in .40 quite a bit before, though.

They're terrific guns -- easily the most underrated/underappreciated polymers on the market, in my opinion. Totally reliable, robustly built, very accurate, nice trigger for a polymer, superb fit and finish, the whole nine yards. It's the softest-shooting service-size polymer pistol in .40 and .45 that I've ever shot, and you'll find that's a pretty common opinion. The rotating-barrel action counters the torque that the bullet generates traveling down the rifling, and the non-tilting barrel minimizes muzzle flip. The sights are definitely good for me. You really ought to try one out. As for the trigger sting that Don_P mentions, I haven't heard about that issue in many years; whatever caused it in some of the early-production guns was remedied long ago.

Here are some links to reviews and comments from a quick Google search. As you'll see, the reviews are essentially uniformly very positive. A fair number of the TFL posters who own PX4s don't seem to post here anymore, but there are a large number of PX4 owners on Glocktalk. If you're registered at GT, you should make the same post over there. You'll get more feedback. I know a few people on GT carry their PX4s.

I've had my .40 Storm for three years now. I've put almost 2,500 rds through it at this point, The last 2,000 (mixed brand ammo) without cleaning the gun, except to run a Boresnake through it after each range session (it's a torture test I run on my handguns when I first get them). My Storm never had a single malfunction of any kind. It's more accurate than I am, and it's by far the easiest shooting .40 cal. I've ever handled. Most of my buddies think they're shooting a 9 mm when they first pull the trigger. This makes it pretty easy to shoot fast and accurately; with my other .40 I'm a few seconds slower on the same set of targets.

If I have a criticism of the gun it's got to be that the initial double action trigger pull is really long, and though not terribly heavy, it stacks a lot just before the break.

The only real down side to the thing, IMO, is that as it's not a popular gun there isn't much in the way of aftermarket parts, holsters, etc. For instance, I looked into getting a laser for it, but could only find a couple and they both mounted to the mini-rail underneath the barrel. Skipping the fact that they just looked clunky, You have to go and get yourself a holster that will accept that thing.

I know it'll never happen but it would be nice if a company out there would put out either a guide rod laser or a down the side laser, so I don't have to buy yet another holster.

And I'd say it's about the same for any aftermarket parts, accessories, etc. There just isn't much to choose from.
Peace.

I have an F model in .40. After several thousand rounds, I have had 2 or 3 failure to feed issues, but pretty sure they were operator error and crappy reload related. Otherwise, flawless operation. The decocker "ears" are pretty large. I don't carry mine, don't know if the decocker profile would be an issue if I did. There may be a low profile aftermarket decocker available, its been a while since I looked into that and don't recall details. Felt recoil is more like a 9mm than a .40, likely due to the rotating barrel design. Overall, very happy with the gun.

Just got back from the indoor range with my PX4 Storm .40. I again had a great cluster at 10 yards! Love it! I also shoot the Beretta 90-TWO in 9mm.
