Beretta slam fire?

I have a Beretta 96 Inox compact that slammed fired two times. Always with a full mag charging the first round. I thought that maybe the firing pin spring is weak. but feels the same as my other 96 and 92 when pushed in with a ballpoint pen. Give me some ideas. I don't think this a common problem with Berettas.
 
Remove the firing pinand clean and lightly lube the pin, spring and hole .Also check pin for burrs. Your firing pin may not be retracting.
 
There has been a thread going on the IALEFI website along theses lines. Pull the firing pin out and check it for cracks and replace the firing pin spring. This appears to be more of a problem on guns that are dry fired a lot
 
For those of us with beretta's could you explane "slam fires"

Are you talking about double taping, where the gun fires auto for two or three rounds.
Or are you talking about hitting the gun some how and setting it off.
Or letting the slide slam home fired the gun.
I have a gold cup that some people have gotten several rounds off but its usualy some one that cushion's the trigger. I have had the gun for 15 years and cant do it if I try.
This sound very scarry and I would apprechate what ever you find to be the problem. I have a 92 and an 8000 cogar both in 9mm and have never had a problem with ether. The 92 has over 1000 rounds and the cougar has over 4000
 
I will give the firing pin a better look. I'm not new to hand guns and I shoot competition (IDPA and IPSC) about 10,000rds a year. This the first time I ever had a gun slam fire. With a full mag on the first charge from a slide lock the gun may fire by itself with the finger of off the trigger. I never have my finger on the trigger anyway unless I'm ready to shoot. I use a 1911 for CDP and limited ten. I have heard about slam fires with weak firing pin springs. Like I said I used a ball point pen to push on the firing pin and it seamed to be the same as my 96 full size and 92. I don't use the beretta for competition but it will sure will get your attention when you drop the slide and the gun shoots. With a weak firing pin spring I would think the gun would go full auto or at least try to. I'm thinking there is something else wrong with the gun. It's not the ammo because it works just fine in the full size 96.
 
You can't have a slam fire due to a weak spring on any gun with a firing pin safety, unless multiple things are wrong.


Best advice: Beretta will pay for shipping to and from the factory for the chance to fix your gun. Take them up on it; it's a good deal.
