Hello all,

I just picked up this rifle today for a GREAT price. When i was looking at it in the store each time you break the barrel it makes a LOUd crack when the ejector pops out. Have you guys found this to me normal?

Thanks all.

Wow, I hope you're joking. If you're not...

What you are hearing are the extractors "popping" as they attempt to kick out a spent SHOTGUN shell.

Get two fired shells of the appropriate gauge and insert them into the chambers. With the gun pointed in a safe direction, pull both triggers. This time, when you "break" the gun open, it should pull the hulls out a little and then "POP" they go flying over your shoulder. Because there is some resistance, the pop shouldn't be nearly as loud. If it is, take it back and have the salesperson explain whether or not it's normal. (It might really be broken)

BTW - what did you pay for this item if I might ask?

Why the "wow" this is my first experieince with an O/U. I have a pump and a 2x2 so this is a new world for me. I am sure it is normal I just get nervous when I pay $1400 for a rifle.

Just checked my own 686, and it behaves as you describe. Although I don't consider it loud, I'm probably use to it. lockedcj7's very likely right, but I didn't have any spent shotshell cases to verify.
