I'm not an uber shotgunner like some people here, but my answer would be: how does it fit you? I'll leave the trap specific questions to the people who know more about it, but for any shotgunning sport, fit is extremely important.

I use a 26" barrel and have no problems with it.
A 26" barrelled repeater has about the same OA length as a 28" barrelled O/U. The gas system in the forend adds a little weight forward, which most trap guns need.
The 390 is widely used for clay games, including trap. It has the rep of being quite reliable.
If the 26" barrel bothers you, get some nifty long extended choke tubes. Now you'd have a 27" barrel.
Use the 390 for trap. Later, you may wish to get another shotgun for trap. Lie down until the urge passes.....

Of course you can use a 26" tube for Trap. I also assume you have a screw in choke system. The longer barrels used in Trap serve to give you a longer sight radius and the extra length (weight) which helps keep the barrel swinging smoothly. I have a friend with a 22" Rem 870 and he breaks the birds just as hard as my 34" BT-99. No visible difference in the breaks and the same with LONG shots. Regardless of what some say,, a long barrel will not shoot appreciably any further, hit any harder. At least not enough to matter except to those that want to argue a point to death.
