Beretta Reintroduced The 92G

Just got an email from the gun shop and Beretta started making the Beretta 92G again and they have 5 in stock. I wish I had the cash as I would scoop one up, I just dumped all my money into an AR build though. For those who don't know the 92G is a decocker only, no safety. Thinking really hard about selling my M9A1 for the 92G, or maybe ill keep it and still get a 92G :D

Cheapshooters rule.....

OK you convinced me, looks like ill have to start myself a 92G fund, all donations are welcome. I always planned on getting another Beretta anyway. I live in MA where we can only have pre-ban mags, and one of the easiest pistols to get pre-ban mags for is the Beretta, so it would be nice to have a backup.

I own some 92s and do not see why people are attracted to the 92G.

I can load mine 92F, set the safety down, then set it back up. The result is the same, is it not, as loading the 92G and setting the safety down and watching it spring back up.

The only advantage I can see is when somebody is doing a stoppage clearance drill (aka clearing a jam). When the slide is rapidly yanked back the safety might be moved down and stay down, while the decocker would spring back up.

Is that the big attraction?

Long live the 92 Compact!

Bart, I think it's more along the lines of it's one less thing that can go wrong. Honestly, I don't much see the point in a SA/DA gun having a safety when it already has a decocker. Still, I don't think it's that big a deal... I can't say I've ever had a problem with my M9's safety ending up on when I thought it was off.

But hey, it's probably not that big a deal for them to make this variant. I'm a little surprised they're not working up some 92Ds too... I read a while back that the St. Louis Police Department is starting to look for new pistols since theirs (they use the 92D) are wearing out. Since Beretta no longer makes that one, they're having to look elsewhere. Not sure why they are uninterested in a 92FS, but bureaucrats do things for their own reasons.

That would be my assumption as well. I like DA/SA and I'm not big on safeties. So I'm a big fan of decocker only.

Twice in an IDPA match I've engaged the safety by accident after a reload. It takes a few seconds to figure out why it doesn't shoot. Not so bad in a match, death in a gun fight.
My vote is for the 92G.

Yes Technosavant is correct. There is no point to a safety on a double action gun, with the possible exception of allowing cocked-and-locked carry, which the Beretta does not since it double as a decocker. It is another thing that can go wrong, and its also just very irritating. You can flip the safety on and then off again, but do that 400 times in a class and you will see the benefit of the G.

I'd like to see the 92A1 with the "G" slide. That'd be my ideal configuration.

Stop teasing! Holy cow, that'd be awesome. With the new Beretta factory 17-rounders and/or some Mec-Gar 18-rounders. Nightstand pistol for life.
