Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact

Does anyone have any personal experience with these? I'm looking at a used one that is "as new in box," with all accessories, for $400. I have no experience with Beretta, but do know that they will not "warrant" their guns, to anyone other than the initial, buyer. The gun seems to be a "cut-above," in quality, and workmanship. Thanks for your help.

I have a compact. Only one fte in the first 200 rounds....then spotless. My main complaint about the gun was how slippery the grips are....but I fixed that with skateboard tape! Nice gun!

b.m., welcome to The Firing Line. You have done well by joining this forum.

And I agree with you about the slippery grip. I had my gunsmith apply the "Glock stipple" that he does, to only the removable backstrap. I believe I am using the medium size. The stippling helps just a little with the grip.

To the OP, I'd say you must buy that gun. For $400 it is a good deal. I paid more for mine several years ago and do not regret it. That Beretta is a fine gun. The trigger is better than the factory Beretta 92.

Some review by people who know what they are talking about:

Notice that Langon has done a full stipple job on his personal Px4, assuming those are pictures from his original article. In any case those are good pictures for size comparison.

Who says "buy it!"

I hate stipling. My pistols have the front and backstrap checkered using a checkering file. These files are made with various Lines Per Inch LPI , 20lpi works well. My checkering also is not full so it comes out as flat top checkering. This is effective but without a hazard to clothing as the old M39 S&W was to your jacket.

I had a 40 that I had to let go in a trade for an old 2.5" S&W 66. If not for that 357 I would still have that Storm, I really liked that pistol. To me it shot like a full size, quality was first rate, it is a Beretta after all.;)

I have a compact. Be aware that the subcompact does not have the rotating barrel system that most people credit with softening the recoil on the compact and full size pistols.

I like the line, though, and the price is right. I like the ergonomics, and I although the complaint of a slick grip is common, I don't notice it myself. If it's a pistol you like, jump. And welcome to TFL.

Concerning the slickness of the grip, I have full wrap stipple jobs done on both my full size DAO model, along with my subcompact which is presently getting converted to a decock-only model with slim levers as well. Works great for me and makes quite a positive difference with grip purchase.

Looking for this gun as a second, easier to carry gun... Just bought a beretta 92 compact.

So many mixed reviews on this pistol... people say "zero problems" or "jaming since the first round". Are this issues fixed?

My other option is the glock 26... but the beretta PX4 SC in my country is $1100 and the glock 26 is $1500

Ahh! I blew it!

I read the OP as saying it was a Compact model. As has been pointed out, it was a subcompact and that is a different pistol, at least for the barrel to slide lockup.

But I bet that my favorable words concerning the trigger are still valid.

Who is embarrassed.

Bachá, which country do you live in? I like to read threads from our non-US members as I get to learn a little more about the world.

I have also a Beretta 92 Compact and like it more than the full-sized 92 guns. The grip on the compact is slightly reshaped, to make it shorter and this makes it a perfect fit to my hand.

The 92 Compact is, of course, just as wide as the full-sized 92. This grip size is another place where the Px4 Compact is better than the 92 Compact.

My personal experience with those two Beretta models is that both have been completely reliable. I did replace the recoil spring and the locking block on the 92 Compact since I bought it used and had no idea of how many round had been fired through it.

when i bought my compact i was debating between that and the sub compact.. the sub compact just seem to bulky to me... as for the slickness of guns.. i use the old bike intertube grip method.. cheap, effective, thin... works wonders..

100% reliable

Howdy,

My Px4 Storm subcompact (.40 S&W) has been 100% reliable for the few hundred rounds I've put through her over the last 15 months. Recoil is milder than one would expect from the otherwise "snappy" .40 S&W. As for accuracy, I'm not as accurate with this 3-inch barrel pistol as I am with my 92FS, but that shouldn't be a surprise. I've got 10 rounds of potent .40 S&W on my hip in a reliable pistol. What's not to like?

PS: I'm 6'0 and the snap-grip allows me a full grip, although during firing I've found myself in a two finger grip often, due to the recoil.

I own the next size up, they're great guns, fairly accurate, very reliable. "all the accessories" however is kindof misleading. I've owned handguns from pretty much every major manufacturer, the "accessories" that come with the PX4 are pretty much the bottom of the barrel. most people don't like the freebees that come with guns like the holsters, speed loaders, or god forbid an actual carrying case that you would want to use. however I really like it when my guns come with a holster, or a nice carry case, to me it means the manufacturer takes pride in their product and their customer base. with the PX4, all you really get are the backstraps, safety lock(mandated), and the cheapest, least space efficient plastic case in the industry.

My wife has a PX4 subcompact. She loves it. Recoil is manageable. She can operate the slide just fine and it can take various sizes of magazines. Great gun for small to medium hands. Conceals fairly well. Never had a jam even with the cheap-ass ammo I buy.

One note: I'm used to the M9. THe first time I racked the slide, I sliced my hand open on the sharp edge and bled all over the gun store counter. Very embarrassing. Yeah, I'm an idiot. :(

I've had my PX4 SC for about a year now. I converted it to a G model decocker only. It is a little thick to carry. So it serves as a home defense gun. It's sitting next to me as I type this. I bought mine used for $400. I've had no problems with any kind of ammo from cheap range ammo to defense jhp.
