Beretta PX4 Storm in .40 S&W

A friend of mine is selling a practically new Beretta PX4 Storm .40 for $350. Has about 50 shots through it. This will be the first pistol I own if I buy it, but I have shot many pistols before so I have some experience with them. This seems to be an excellent pistol, but I know a lot more about AR-15's than I do handguns. I wanted to know if this was a good price for this weapon, and if there have been any problems regarding failure to feed, eject, etc. or if it's known for bad accuracy (or anything else). Thanks for the feedback :)

P.S.: It has a twisting barrel and it definitely kills a lot of the recoil. Anybody had problems regarding that specifically?

I have PX4's in 9mm and they are lower felt recoil than some other 9mm's. Don't have and experience with the 40 cal PX4. $350 would be a great price for any of the PX4's.

$350 is a ridiculously good price.

I have the Compact version in .40 and it's my EDC, and after thousands of rounds I had exactly 1 malfunction and that was a stovepipe when the case of a reload split.

Very good price on a pistol that I consider to be an under-recognized gem. My daughter has a 9 mm compact, and as someone else said, it is extremely soft shooting. I generally prefer 9 mm, especially for a first pistol, but you have some experience, and folks who own the .40 PX4 very frequently say that it shoots like a 9 mm. The only down side to the .40 versus the 9 mm will be the cost of ammo. If you don't mind that, my vote would be to grab it.

The Canadian Border Guards went with the .40 version, a buddy of mine works on the Peace Bridge, loves his, zero malfunctions, $350.00? Rip it out of his hand! Give him his $350.00 though.

Reliable pistol

Howdy,

Just acquired a Px4 Storm subcompact in .40 S&W a few days ago. My first .40 S&W after years with the 92FS in 9mm. So far it's 100% reliable, even if the recoil is a bit snappy.
While it's stubby appearance doesn't impress, it does a satisfying job with it's ergonomics and it's also easy to conceal. In a 3-inch barrel, the .40 S&W seems a more effective choice than 9mm. What's not to like?

The subcompacts don't have the rotating barrel system that mitigates some recoil. The compacts and full size have the rotating barrel.

Sounds like an excellent price on a fine pistol. Mine functioned perfectly through several hundred rounds and was very comfortable to shoot.

My only caveat is I have given up on trying to like long DA pulls, and am not a fan of Beretta's safety setup, would prefer a straight decocker. That modification can apparently be made, there is online guidance if you have any skill.

Good price indeed.

Currently have a full size 9mm PX4 D (DAO) as well as the subcompact (converting from F to G, decock-only), and also had it's predecessor, the Cougar, in 9mm and .40 as well. Zero issues out of any of them, and all were/are very accurate.

If you get it, just make sure that you keep the little nub on the locking lug lubed up for smooth function. Other than that, it may not be the latest and greatest, but it's a great pistol that will do it's job admirably.

I have put about 1000 rounds through my Px4 Compact 9 mm with no malfunctions. The gun can accept full-size mags, which are easy to find in big box stores or directly from Beretta. It is a little heavy for EDC, but has a very sturdy construction and a good reputation. Sounds like a great deal for the price.

I shot a friends PX4 a few years ago.

All I remember is a first impression of he bought a name and "You paid how much for this?"

I say shoot it first........
