beretta or taurus 92 (quality/durabliy)

I am curious if I should buy the Taurus PT 92 special edition or a Beretta 92. My major concern is quality and durability. I have heard that Taurus's are made on Beretta machines does this result in the same quality? Also are the same materials (has far as the frame barrel and slide) used in both the Beretta and Taurus I would be getting the gun in SS. I am leaning more to the Taurus because I like the pearl handles and gold accents. Yes, I know in the time gold will peal or fade and if anything I am sure I can get the parts from Taurus in regular SS. Would I have to fear the SS pealing, fading, or rusting? And would any of you hesitate to take the Taurus over the Beretta to defend your life? I tried to insert a picture of the Taurus if any o you want to see it. And as much as i like its looks I woudnt want to own a gun that I couldnt protectmy life with since that i wha they are made for.

Thanks
James

My experience has been that the Beretta is a bit more accurate, but the two guns will last a lifetime with proper care. Taurus has a better warranty and costs less. They have a frame mounted safety/decocker and can be carried cocked and locked. Not so with the Beretta.

Get the Taurus if that's what you want.

LIQUID- I don't understand your comment about the "cocked-and-locked" being better... that's a disadvantage in most minds. If you are cocked and locked with a single frame safety, that ain't much security (I've personally seen sear-blocking safety levers break on a Brown HP). The Beretta has a slide safety/decocker. You can carry it hammer down (chambered) safety off and it's like a revolver: point and pull. You can carry a 92FS hammer down (chambered) safety on for more security and you have to flick the safety up then point and pull. I think Beretta has the best safety going.

My Beretta has had a few thousand rounds through it NO PROBLEMS and as it has been used, it just gets smoother :D I owned a very early model Taurus. Didn't put too many rounds through it before I realized I would be better off without it. I just didn't like DA/SA trigger on it. You can't beat the inherent quality of the Beretta ;)

I have shot both and they shoot basically the same..I own a Taurus. The stainless is top quality..and it will eat anything you
may want to shoot. Beretta's are world class guns, but in my
experience so is the Taurus. Either way you cant go wrong..
My money is on the Taurus...
