Well, this is an update on my earlier thread asking for opinions on the Sig P226 versus the Beretta 92fs platform. My buddy and I got our respective Sig and M9A1 (which is essentially identical to the 92fs only it has a tactical rail) to the range and had a fun comparison.
Some technical points.
Both guns have fixed sights. The Sig has Tritium sights, which is clearly a nice thing to have. Both guns have a three dot sight system. (Some M9s have a one dot sight system, but the M9A1 has a three dot sight system just like the 92fs).
Both guns were fairly new.
Impressions.
Overall, we both would say that the two guns are very similar as shooters. I thought that my buddy's Sig had slightly softer feeling recoil, but that might have been subjective. Both guns, of course, reward good shooting technique with tight groupings. I had my best groups of the day with the Sig. Hilariously though, my buddy had his best groups of the day with my Beretta M9A1 and he was somewhat chagrined about that. I happen to be the better marksman of the two of us, and my impression was that the two guns shoot about the same in terms of accuracy. Once I was in my groove with both guns I was getting most of the shots in the bull's-eye ring at 8.5 yards, which is the range we did most of our shooting at. (My buddy, being a somewhat new shooter, is not much good at further ranges. I consider 8.5 yards a good "combat distance.)
Reliability-wise, both guns had perfect days. We shot right around 200 rounds through both guns and neither gun had any kind of feeding or ejection issue.
I am not sure that this "shoot-out" proved anything, but it was fun!
