Which one is truely the better of the two. Should I spend the extra money for the 92 or is the 911 up to par. My duty firearm is the M9/M92 and I want a smiliar off-duty weapon to practice and carry.

Probably the Beretta, but the Taurus is a good gun (from all first hand accounts I've heard).

The PT911 would certainly be up to par, the 92 is probably a bit nicer. If it is worth the extra money only you can decide. If it was me I'd probably get the PT911.

That may be your answer. Check out and shoot (if you can) the PT911 to see how you like it, but the 92 compact is probably closer to your duty weapon.

Thanks

Although cash is tight right now and the Beretta is almost $200 more than the PT911, I think will go with the M92 compact (double stack).

Ive shot both and honestly the trigger was better on the Taurus.
Smooth and light d/a pull, s/a pull has to be felt...just like my CZ83.
The PT911 is a double stack with 10 rnd mag cap.
The only thing that I didnt like about any of the PT 9** series
guns is the Big Dot front sight...I covered the target more than not.
The trigger outa the box on the Taurus will smooth out alot.
Accuracy is on par with the Beretta, dependability, finish etc...all are comparable.
The PT 9** series is a result of Taurus, Beretta and Sig design, all the benefits without the drawbacks.
The PT's safety is second to none. Best design and working in the business.
Would you guess which one I like? Get the Taurus IMO

Shoot well

I may have to reconsider the P911 especially from hearing good things (unlike the polymer series). There are 13 rd mags for the compact, does the PT911 have them also.

Don't think I've seen hicaps for Taurus PT9 series guns. I'd still go for the Taurus though. I've never known ANY company firearms or otherwise that would back their products like Taurus. Take a real close look at their warranty, lifetime of the gun, not original owner. Pass it to your Grandkids, still under warranty. They are also very pro gun. Check out the info on their website about the "pilots program" and their NRA affiliations. Taurus also cleaned up on the major industry awards this year, Beretta did not. Beretta is just now coming out with a half way ergonomic pistol in the Vertec. Also wit ha light rail, but it is nothing new to the industry. Taurus is leading the way, with Ti, Raging wheelguns, new polymer ideas, and even poly-Ti pistols. I'm in the market for a Raging Bull myself, so I've been lookin closely to see if anyone has competition fo them. I think I may get one of their Platinum 92s as well. :D

Changing the mainspring on the 92FS Compact from the factory to a standard strength 1911 mainspring will automagically make the trigger pull considerably better. This tip came from one of the writers in American Handgunner who reportedly got the tip from SEALS. I tried it and it worked fine.

Beretta vs. Taurus....

Well, I have a Taurus 94 9-shot .22RF revolver in SS, a PT940 in SS/alloy and a PT58 in blue.

I should say I've got a replacement PT940, as my original cracked it's frame at approx. 5K rounds. It took two trips to Taurus and a letter to Taurus president Rob Morrison to get the pistol replaced. I can provide details if anyone desires(it wasn't pretty or pleasant).

Conversly, the PT58 was a trade-for. Once in my little paws, a close examination of fired casings showed that a previous owner had hogged out the chamber a little too much(very nicely bulged cases). I contact Taurus, the pistol was sent in and the barrel was replaced... no cost other than shipping to Taurus.

The model 94 in SS has never given even the slightest problem. It was my mother's until she passed two years ago. Now it's mine.

I have a Beretta 8045 Cougar. Beyond a very snug factory chamber(even the slightest over-length case will not chamber), the 8045 is a VERY nice pistol. At least fo my larger than average paws. Trigger is better than average for a factory trigger. Accuracy is on the same par as the trigger.

I've shot beretta 96's and comparing with the PT940, I'd have to give the edge to the Beretta's. I've not shot the Taurus PT100 or PT101, so I can't comment on them in comparison to the Beretta 96's.

I can say this though. I've not shot the PT940 replacement pistol. Once bitten, twice shy. I'm currently looking for a Beretta 96 Compact Inox, Custom Carry or maybe an Inox Border Marshall. That's how I see the comparison in .40 S&W.

In 9mm, the PT911 should be okay, though if you could find a PT99C(Taurus 9mm comapct version of their PT99), I think that would be a better choice. I say this as I believe that model had 12 or 13 round mags. It was a good idea that I don't believe Taurus gave a chance to catch on.

I closing, I will say this about the Taurus PT9** series... I REALLY like the three position safety on the frame. Nothing else out there is like it(maybe the USP H&K comes close, but what version/type is it). Wish the CZ/Tan's had this style safety.... oh boy, do I wish!

Thanks

Well I just put a ss PT911 on layaway. What year did Taurus start putting the lock thing on the back of grip cause this one didn't have one.

I've been interested in the PT911 but I have not been able to look at one locally. It is my understanding that the PT911 will not accept pre-ban 15 shot PT-92 mags. Is this true? Thanks

I'm not sure about the mags but if no one else answers up I tell you tomorrow when I go to work. (I work part-time in the gun dept. at a military store) And I'll try the Beretta 92 compact 13rd. mags too. If they don't work maybe I'll find something that does.

Well I tried a couple of things and the Beretta 92 compact and PT92 won't work but the CZ-75 mags do. It locks but I'm not sure how well it will feed. I'll keep on trying.:(
