Beretta Cougar 8000 question

I recently picked up a Cougar 8045 and I like it a lot. So much so that I have started thinking about picking up another in 9mm.

What I'm wondering is if model 92 hi-cap magazines will fit and function in the Cougar series.

Any information is appreciated.

92 series magazines will not work in the Cougar series without modification.

The magazine release notch is in a different position.

A new notch would have to be cut.

They will fit but you will have to recut the slot in the magazine to match the cougars location. a dremel tool works pretty good. G.R.

I remember seeing a webpage where a guy modified Beretta 92 hicaps to fit the Cougar 8000. They ran awfully high though. In the $100+ range.

Thanks for the replies folks.

I know the Beretta pre-ban magazines are expensive but I was hopefull they would fit. Oh well. It's just that IMO any good 9mm should hold 15 rounds not 10. :)

I might get one of these pistols in spite of that. I like this design.

Thanks again.

So you got bit by the Cougar? :D. I have both the .40 and the .45 and I would like to get the 9mm also. Those are really nice handguns IMHO. But right now I'm either considering a Glock 27 or the new Beretta 9000,which I believe I would prefer over the Glock. I just like those Berettas

Joe Klug, I've posted this before-- and the above posters are correct-- you can use 92S, 92F, and 92FS hi cap mags IF you cut the magazine release hole in those mags, to EXACTLY match the hole in the Cougar mag. I have seen an LEO armorer do it with a milling machine and it worked perfectly.

I wouldn't try it with a Dremel tool, but then I'm not good with one. If you have a milling machine and calipers, it's not at all difficult. Or, if you have a friend who has same. Good condition, hi cap Beretta mags are still easy to come by at the gun shows, at least in my area.

Best of luck. J.B.

Yeah, I've been bitten by the Cougar bug. :) I really don't -need- another 9mm but then again variety is the spice of life.

I may try the idea of using the 92 magazines if I can find a cheap one to experiment with first.

Thanks for the information.

Hi Joe,

My roommate purchased two 15 round clips for his Beretta 8000 9mm made by Promag. He paid $20 each and then kicked himself because two days later he found them for $16 each. These clips were the Beretta 92 type that had ALREADY been modified. They fit and function perfectly in his pistol. He did not have to do any modifications since, as I said, they had already been modified for that price.

He ordered them online. Unfortunately I don't remember where he got them. You'll have to do some searching. They are out there though. There are some for $30 at this web site http://www.gunaccessories.com/Magazines/Beretta/Beretta.asp and yes, those are preban clips.

Good luck.

Tstr,

Thanks! That should work out better than me trying to modify some myself.

Now all I need to do is buy the 8000. :)
