Beretta Cheetah

I have my eye on a Beretta Cheetah. It is the "F" version. I read that the "FS" version has internal improvements. How significant are the differences? What are the "improvements"?

Reliability and durability are my first concerns.

Thanks in advance,

I have the 84F, no problems what so ever and is very accurate. Best .380 in my opinion and did I mention is beautiful?

You're thinking of the 92FS. They have the lager head on the hammer pin and a milled slot in the bottom of the left side of the slide. In the event of a slide separation failure (I seen 6 or 7 cracked/broken M9 slides in our old DRMO box) the rear of the slide will not come off and strike the firer.
The 84F versus the 84FS mainly is concerned with the decocking lever. My 84F for example has a decocking lever that has a point midway that seems like it is on safe like a cocked and locked 1911. However, this is NOT a manual safety and if the trigger is depressed the hammer will fall and the pistol will fire. The 84FS IIRC reduced this midway stop position to reduce the pressure needed to decock the hammer. As far as reliability and durability, there is no improvement.
Don't be afraid of buying an 84F though. I got mine from CDI and I love it. It's a very smooth and accurate little pistol. Some will complain about its size being that of a small 9mm and being too large for a .380 ACP pistol but its larger size makes it a very nice shooting pistol none the less.

Oops, forgot to add the picture. A post like this is worthless without pictures ya know! Here she is with her Warsaw Pact counterpart, a surplus CZ82 in 9X18mm Makarov.

I too am a fan of Beretta 84's and bought two (one for me and another for my wife). They are great pistols and serve us well as a cwp. With 13 rounds of 380 on tap I never feel underguned. Go ahead and get one, they are fun guns to shoot.

I have the Beretta and the Browning version. Or, is the Beretta a version of the Browning? No complaints with either.

It is not clear which Cheetah the OP is referring to in his/her post. We have heard from an owner of the Model 84 F. I own two Model 85 F's. I believe the 85 F was only made one year, and it was 1990. I have never had a problem with either of mine if this information helps the OP.

So, we have some of the field of Cheetah's covered with our responses. :)
