Beretta Cheeta problem

After firing the first 14 rounds from my new Beretta Cheeta 380, the shell casing stuck halfway ejected and locked up the slide. I have tried every way to release the slide short of marking it up to no avail. Any suggestions as to cause and how to get the gun working again?

Remove the magazine and use a bright flashlight to make sure its a fired case that's stuck then you'll probably have to use piece of fiberglass rod or even a oak dowel a little smaller in diameter than the barrel, put the dowel in and give it a sharp rap with a hammer, it should dislodge it. You might want to get a friend to help hold the gun a pull back the slide at the same time.

You stated it is a brand new gun. Did you clean it and lubricate it prior to you shooting it for the first time? As mentioned, you will want to free the hopefully expended brass from the chamber.

Compare the jammed brass with some of the other brass you fired from this pistol prior to the jam. See if you notice anything different or unusual about it compared to the brass that fired without locking-up.

What type of ammunition are you using?

I have two Cheetah 85Fs and never has a problem. Mine were both used when I obtained them.

I did not clean/lube the gun before firing. It came out of the box to the range..mea culpa, mea culpa. I used Winchester target rounds. I have confirmed that this is fired brass that is jammed. The rear half of the case is visible from viewing. I will try the dowel operation and report on (hopefully) success. I will never shoot a new gun without cleaning, lubing, etc. Thanks all!

Tell us what was wrong with the casing. Is it split?

First time I've ever heard of a low pressure brass casing getting stuck in a blowback firearm.

I respect your honesty. We all make a few mistakes along the way. I certainly have in my lifetime. :)

Hopefully you have it cleared now and back on the road with a quality pistol.

Let us know how it goes after a few more rounds through it.
