Beretta "Border Marshall" 9mm/Feedback?

I was at the range this past Saturday with a shooting buddy of mine who brought his Beretta for me to try out. It was a 9mm with night sights(came with the gun new)and had "Border Marshall" on the slide. Man this gun was a mess! It either had FFTF every other round or it jammed, or it had stove pipe jams, or the slide failed to lock back after the last round was fired. We put 150 rounds through it using both reloads and factory ammo with same results. We tried two mags, one came with the gun, the other was a USA high cap. Again same results. He asked me if I thought he should get rid of it or send it back. As he had just bought it this past Christmas I advised him to send it back to Beretta at least once. Anyone out there have any experience with this pistol? Any feedback would be ,as usual, appreciated.

I took my new Beretta 92G Elite to the range today. It is very similar to the Border Marshall albeit some minor differences.
Did this problem just pop up or has it been going on?

I put 200 rounds through it without one hiccup whatsoever. Ammo was all factory...100 rounds of 115 grn Winchester White, 50 of 115grn S&B and 50 of 124 grn CCI Blazers. Sounds like that particular piece may have some problems.....I knoe this sounds dumb but did he clean the excess oil off of it before shooting it?? My Elite was absolutely dripping in places I would not usually want to see oil.

FWIW the Elite is the best 9mm I've ever had the pleasure of shooting.

If it did just pop up, has he been cleaning it?

Grapeshad,
I am assuming this was something new. However he said that he had not shot this pistol much at all. As to him cleaning it I don't know. I do know that even for a pistol that hasn't been broken in it should not have that many problems. I'm talking every mag had frequent malfunctions.

don't know what the problem with some of you guys is but i hope that you don't think these are good examples of beretta's quality. i have a 92FS that has functioned 100% reliably in over 2500 rounds and my 92G Elite also functions that reliably now but has less rounds thru it. that is what all berettas should be like but of course there's got to be a few mistakes.

USA mags are the worst mags in the history of mankind. Try a different factory mag. Make sure the pistol is clean. Make sure it is properly oiled. My Beretta 92FS has functioned flawlessly and accurately since new.

Hello To All; If the magazine isn't the problem; try Beretta's outstanding factory
repair service; I've read some mighty good
reviews coming out of the Maryland plant,
I do not have any personal experience with
them however! :)

I've never used the 9mm, but I've shot the BM in .40 a lot. My friend has one with probably about 7 or 8 hundred rounds through it, mostly reloads and no malfunctions. I would probably call Beretta and see about sending it back.

Was the pistol properly clean and lubed? Did the ammo you try function in other pistols? Is the factory magazine functional?

Only once did I see a problem with Beretta 92FS, it stovepiped twice. The culprit? Total lack of lubrication. A couple of drops of CLP solved the problem.

So many pistols, so little money.
