Beretta Billennium for competition shooting?

I was at my local gun shop yesterday when I noticed a Beretta Billennium. Well I just had to look at it sense I never saw one before. After looking it over I was pretty impressed with overall look and feel of the pistol. It weights in at a hefty 44oz and had a very nice clean and light (SA only) trigger pull. After gazing at it for a few more minutes I couldn’t help to think that this puppy being a 9mm, would have to be one hell of a range gun.

I guess my question is, would this be a good gun for IDPA shooting say over the Elite 2?
I have never shot a beretta before, but always hear good things about their reliability and accuracy. The price is alittle on the high side @ $1100, but considering that’s almost what I paid for my last Kimber CDP, It’s probably not that bad.

Any impute would be greatly appreciated

Thank,

Matt

I'd use it. Steel frame & slide, cocked & locked, 9mm and awesome good looks (because it's not how good you are, it's how good you look ;) ). I bet it's a good shooter too!

For TFLers who might not read my reply on 1911, the Billennium does not make the weight limit for IDPA. As a single action 9mm it would fall into ESP where the maximum weight is 43 ounces.

Not that I have ever seen a gun weighed at a match, but do you want to be the first? Do you want to pay $1100 for a gun you can only legitimately shoot with your buds? Do you want to have to sneak it in at a match and not be able to brag about it to somebody who might know it weighed 45 oz and who could get you DQed?

I guess tooling up for a new gun takes longer than a club can write rules, or they just don't care. For example, nobody can tell me what sport the Sig-Sauer P2xx Sport models are good for. Compensators, double action, iron sights. Not allowed or uncompetitive at everything I have tried (IPSC, IDPA, NRA, IHMSA.)

The Billennium is apparently intended as a showpiece, the website says they are only making 2000 of them. Neat, but kind of an expensive plinker.

The 92 or 96 Stock model has SA lockwork with proper thumb safety but retains the aluminum frame and makes weight. They are not very common - not even on the Beretta USA site - but are what you would need for a Beretta IDPA ESP gun.
