Beretta barrel woes

Hi everyone! I recently posted on my new 96G Elite, and the bore that had a few "rough spots" in it. I could not take it anymore, I brought the gun back to the dealer, at Beretta's suggestion, and asked him to ship it back for me. I told him that level of workmanship was totally unacceptable on a 600.00 gun. He told me that that was a typical Beretta barrel. I told him B.S. that I have three other Berettas at home and the bores are not what I would call super, but they did not exhibit the bad tooling marks of the 96G elite. He proceede to let me look at another elite, and three other Berettas, and after cleaning them to ensure the factory residue was off, I noticed all of them looked like s@!$. He offered me my money back, and as much as I liked the gun, I took him up on it. I ended up buying another Glock... a G17. I hope Beretta pulls their head out of their butt and addresses this problem. I love their products, but won't pay more money for what is becoming less gun.

could you please explain exactly what these "rough spots" look like. Neither of my Berettas (92FS and 92G Elite) have any problems with their bores. I guess this is a new problem recently made Berettas are having? I hope they don't keep sending out messed up Berettas, i'm surpised those would even pass quality control.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems ALL the gun manufacturers are turning out shoddy products these days. Anybody else getting the same feeling?

My latest purchases seem just fine.

I'll withhold judgement until I have money for a gun again. Then it is bore light time.

I am surprised that a quality company like Beretta is doing this though.

Seem to be a greater number of guns with shoddy craftsmanship coming through. From several makers. But at least the prices are high.

I also own three other Berettas and the bores are not as nice as my Glocks and Sigs I've seen. The Beretta Elite I had and the other three I looked at looked like they had severe copper fouling in the grooves, but close inspection showed it was the "grain" of the steel. When looking at the bore at a strong light, where the rough spots were it was noticably dark. However, I almost kept the gun, as it shot good, but I'm a perfectionist and it would bother the heck out of me every time I cleaned the gun. The gunshop owner who I was dealing with told me to pick something else, as all of the Berettas he's seen lately have had lousy craftmanship in the barrels. He also offered to give me a refund, which I thought was really nice of him, but I got another Glock with a great looking bore. I just think that after Beretta cut in the rifling, they don't invest any time in polishing the bore.

YES. I see the same thing. And, it isn't just poor quality parts breaking, it's also a level of finish that makes me think final inspection is being done by a blind guy who is late for his other job.

When was yours made?

I have two 92fs', both made in November of 2001 and both of them are finished quite nicely. No problems with interior or exterior. Fit and finish are great.

Was the one you looked at made even more recently? Seems strange that a production line would change that quickly.

I have to say my 92fs is as clean as a whistle and tightand smooth. Shoots pretty darn good too...Must have found a keeper,eh

this perked my interest so much that i had to walk into a storeroom, unload and disassembly my 96 and hold the bore up to the light.

i can't find any "rough spots" either, there is a definate grain that runs along the rifling but no "dark areas". i've never checked before as this 96 is the most accurate .40 i've handled (better than glock 22 or sig 229)

nothing comes close to my hk p7...that's why i love the ploygonal rifling

My concern would have been "what did it shoot like?"

Had the barrel been rough, but it still shot well, I wouldn't have worried about it. But that's just me.
