Beretta 92FS vs. M9

Other than the markings on the slide and how the grip is attached, is there any difference between the 92FS and the M9?

I've handled both a fair deal, neither has any significant difference. there was once a member here, a 14 year old boy if I recall, who claimed there was a definite difference and he could tell with a blindfold on because his dad's Navy SEAL friends took him shooting a bunch... you can take that for what it's worth.

A 92FS has 3 dot sights opposed to the 2 dots on an M9. The 92FS has a radius cut into the top of the grip, under the beavertail. An M9 does not. And the 92FS has a slanted dust cover/frame. The M9 has a straight one.

I like the PT92 a lot, what is the difference of the AF? there is post on the local trader here in West GA for a clean 92 AF with bunch of mags and ammo for $275. that sounds like an awesome deal, should I jump on it?

I'd jump on that deal. I love my PT92, fits my hand well and is a beautiful looking gun. Mine cost me quite a bit more than that. I got rid of the OEM mags though and stocked up on Mecgar mags. I think their quality is head and shoulders above the OEM Taurus mags.

Likewise, I love my PT92. I used to own a Beretta 92FS, and liked it a lot. Eventually, I traded it away when I found something I wanted more.
But over the last year, I realized I missed shooting it.
I stumbled into an older PT92, made in 1997, for $265 with no mag.
Ordered it from Summit gunbroker and ordered four 18rd MecGar's from Greg Cote LLc.
Looked like new when it arrived. Just to have a known starting point on a 1997 pistol, I dropped in a new Beretta current gen locking block and new recoil spring.
It's a great shooter...seems the equal of the 92FS I used to own. Just to have a known starting point on a 1997 pistol, I dropped in a new Beretta current gen locking block and new recoil spring.
I've shot a few different loads now, about 500 rds total. No problems, good accuracy, and lots of easy shooting fun.
But don't let me dissuade the OP from Beretta. There are several I covet, starting with the Wilson BrigTac.

The M9A3 has a slimmer grip frame, comes with 2 sets of grips, slim set and a wrap around that make it feel like the FS. The main thing I like about the M9A3 is it can have either the FS or G decocker/safety setup. The rail is nice if you want a light.

I hope they weren't using IMI Sub-Machine gun ammo. :D

My M9 has a beveled magazine well, the rear sight has a single half moon dot. my M9A1 has these too, and an accessory rail.

My 92fs pistols have 3 dot sights, standard mag well. I think my newest 92 pistol has a beveled magazine well, but I'll have to look to be sure, but it was one of those marketed as an M9 "commercial" so I'm not sure what it counts as.

Older 92FS pistols have the same straight dust cover. Mine does. It's 14 years old.
