Beretta 92FS rear site adjustment

Hello all. My daughter purchased a new italitan made gun about 6 months ago and has been struggling with it ever since. We spoke to some of the RSO's at the range today and we believe that the rear site is not properly alligned on this gun. My daughter is making a 5 shot ragged hole left of center so we are thinking the rear site needs to be moved slightly right. Is it possible to adjust this factory site? I don't see any adjustment screw on this gun. We need some resolution on this problem or this gun is going down the road. Other than this problem, the gun functions flawlessly! Advise PLEASE!

If it’s a fixed sight it should be drifted by tapping with a dowel or brass punch.

Is this something I can do myself or is this something that the smith should do? Since there is no scale, it seems like it would be a lot of trial and error? Tap then shoot. Repeat?

Yes, you can do this yourself. They're really not as fragile as some might lead you to believe. Keep the frame padded and protected from scratches, and use a brass or nylon type punch to slowly tap the sight to the right.

There might be those more mathematically inclined than myself who could tell you exactly how much to move it. But, that's all greek to me- I would just go in very small increments at a time- no more than 1/16th of an inch at a time.

I make a pencil mark on the setting each time before I move/drift the sight. That way, I know if I'm moving it and how much each time. Another thing I do when tapping the sight is to lay the pistol on top of a large roll of duct tape laid lengthwise, with the sight positioned just off the edge. This helps "cushion" the blows and keeps the pistol above the surface the tape is laid on.

Hi Rick. In my experience, a gunsmith you do business with often or a big store (e.g. Cabelas) will boresight your sights or scope for free. I don't recommend you go hammering away on your sight, as some may fit snugly; there's a chance you may end up marring the sight without moving it. If it has tritium in it, you'll probably break the vials, too.

If you're anal-retentive and want the job done perfectly, you can do it yourself. Here's a sight pusher for $48 on ebay. You can use this on your Beretta. You'll also need a 9mm laser bore sight tool, which you can get online for about $20. Read the reviews, as some are better than others. I use a Sightmark for my 9mm bore sight.

My questions are, has anyone else shot the gun? If so how did they do with regards to placement and group? Have you tried shooting off a bench rest? The rear sight is tight and will need to move to the right if you are truly shooting to the left of center. Now HOW FAR left of center is the group?? 1/4", 1", 4"????? Go slow moving the rear sight. 1/16" is a big move on the Beretta

I've only had limited experience with trying to drift Beretta rear sights, but that pistol had a rear sight that was stupidly tight in the dovetail.

If yours is like that one, you may find it difficult to adjust the sight.

A good gunsmith shouldn't charge you more than $20 and should only take about 5-10 minutes. I've done it myself before with an punch and a hammer and after doing it a few times I just said to heck with it and let somebody with the right tools and experience mess with it. A lot easier that way. Just my .02
