I have a S&W 5096 9mm, I am thinking of getting the Beretta to add to the new collection. Which should I get the 96, 0r the 92. also in Blue or Stainless? It will be in a holster a few days a month.

Thanks

js_nj,
The Blue or stainless questions depends on your taste; the blue on the 92/96 is actually somekind of baked on paint, very durable to sweat and wear. The standard capacity on the 92 is 15rds (Mags are still affordable and plentiful) while the 96 is 11 rds. Personally, I like the 92 and currently own the stainless. The 92/96 series were built and designed around the 9mm cartridge, so I like the gun in it's original designation. Also, as fas as collect-ability I would get it in Italian vs USA. Not saying the US made one are not good, just that the Italian holds or increase it's value over time. Hopes this helps.

I just purchased the the Taurus 92 and I had a hard decision on blue or stainless or I found a gun shop that offered both, and out of both I thought the stainless is better looking in that model, and would think it would hold up better in a holster.

I've got an Italian Stainless 9mm. As Berettas go, I don't think you can do much better. It was my first gun, and it's gorgeous.

Furthermore, go with factory hi-cap mags. Don't skimp and go with aftermarket mags (especially not anything from USA Mags).

Regarding everything else, see Bongo's post above. I agree with everything he said.

I have a 92FS and a 92G Elite. if you are going to get a standard 92/96 then get the bruniton (its not blued but some teflon based coating) finish. if you are going to get a brigadier version get the stainless (beretta calls them INOX which means stainless steel in italian).

i say this because of the sights. my 92FS has the bruniton finish on it and the sights are the same color. the sights also have white dots in them. on the standard 92FS INOX version the front sight is stainless steel and the rear sight is black but the dots are red. the red dots are hard to see and are worse sights. this is why you should get the bruniton 92/96.

if you decide to get an Elite or any other Brigadier version of the 92/96 then i would recommend the INOX version. i recommend this because the stainless barrels are 30% stronger than the carbon steel ones. also the slides are stronger. as for the sights on the brigadier models. they are both front and rear dovetailed and on both INOX and bruniton models are black. and both have white dots so it doesn't matter. also the sights on my Elite (same as on the brigadiers) are bigger and better than those on my 92FS.
