Beretta 92FS durability (hard round counts)

Hi everyone! Does anybody have any info on how many rounds a well taken care of Beretta 92FS can withstand with standard pressure loads? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of getting into IPSC production class and IDPA with my Berettas. I would like to carry a regular practice schedule of at least 400 rounds/month. Will my beloved Berettas fall apart quickly? I plan on changing the recoil spring every year or possibly sooner if round count goes beyond 5000 between changings. I take extremely good care of my guns and hope they will give me a great deal of service! Thanks!

92FS Elite II. Currently somewhere a little over 7000 rounds, including about 600 Cor Bon 124gr +P's. I did go to 14lb return springs from Wolff from day 1, and changed at 3000 and 6000.

I too take very good care and inspect carefully on a regular basis, especially the locking block and slide engagements.

So far, I see nothing abnormal, and nothing to make me think I cannot expect a lot more from it. Time will tell.

In case your wondering, I am NOT a Beretta bigot. This is the only one I own, and the only 9 that I shoot regularly. I bought it when I decided that I wanted to shoot IDPA with my 1911's and also a traditional DA. It was between my P220, and the 92. I chose to buy a 92 instead of using my 220 in order to also get some line time with the 9mm.

what is the standard recoil spring poundage?

Hey bloody thumb, what made you change out the recoil spring from the get go?

Over 100,000 rounds has been recorded on several Beretta 92's. As I heard on the beretta forum.

I've got over 5000 rounds through my 92 Centurion and 500 rounds through my 92fs inox I bought used (so an accurate count isn't available on this gun). Wouldn't hesistate to shoot 400, 500, 1000 rounds per month in either one...

Pop....

I did it on the recommendation of a good friend and practice partner, who IS a Beretta bigot. I put the first 50 through it with the stock spring and he handed me a 14 to try on the spot..... the theory being less punishment, especially with the +P's, as long a reliability does not suffer. It has not. He uses 14's all the time as well.

I have yet to fire anything through it that fails to funtion with the 14, so I keep using them.......

Beretta 92 Trivia-

I use warmer ammo (115s@1500fps) and installed a 19 pound recoil spring from Wolf and an O ring for a shockbuff.
Those with older Berettas may wish to update to the new style locking blocks made of a tougher steel and radiused on the underside of the T.

Beretta U.S.A. claims that the 92FS is serviceable to 35,000 rounds and that it will function under the most adverse conditions.

That is what I have read if I remember correctly.

Remember the XM9/XM10 Specs

The DoD solicitation that lead to the selection of the Beretta as the M9 pistol called for a slide and barrel life of 5,000 rounds.

The largest non-DoD agency purchase of a Beretta pistol provided well over 20,000 Model 96D Brigadier DAO pistols (.40 S&W) to the US Immigration & Naturalization Service. They remove pistols from service at 10,000 rounds. Each pistol is issued with a USMC-style Pistol Record Book and rounds are entered and checked at every qualification. All such pistols are examined for problems and a small percentage exhibit minor cracking in various places -- almost never a critical part. "Deadlined" pistols are converted to training use, some with Simunition barrels, some as red guns for "Techniques of Arrest" training.

Beretta has a valid reputation for building incredibly well engineered firearms. Afterall, they are the world's oldest continuous producing manufacturer of firearms!
