Beretta 92FS DA Trigger

Tankist

New member
Just picked up my new/used 92FS. All around great pistol, so far I'm very satisfied with my choice. I did have a few questions though. The DA trigger is almost useless to me in it's current condition, just as I thought it would be. Not really a problem since this is strictly a plinker. A while back I remember reading something about replacing a part on a 92FS in order to lighten the DA trigger pull. That's about all I remember.

Can someone please help me out with this. What needs to be changed? Where could I possibly obtain this part? Does this require the services of a gunsmith or can I do it myself?

Thanks in advance.

Beretta DA Trigger Pull

If it's a new gun, you can wear it in with lots of shooting .
You can wear it in faster by dry
firing it in DA. ___ CAUTION ___
You must use Snap Caps or at least
an empty brass case in the chamber
to absorb the blow of the firing pin
The 92 was designed with one of
the heaviest hammer blows in the
gun world , to ensure ignition on
all NATO ammo including those that
have very hard primers .
I left my 92 as is. I don't want
it to fail me when I need it most.

But if you must screw with it, you
replace your present hammer spring
with one for a DAO gun. IT is a
lighter weight spring then your present one. I'm told it's easy to
change . I don't see your e-mail.
I could send you the complete guns
take-down and assembly instuctions.

Beretta hammer spring

Kermit,
It seems everyone gets
confused between the trigger spring
and the Main or hammer spring .
The spring photo you sent in is a
Wolff INS Trigger spring. This
springs job is to RESET the trigger
after firing .There were some trigger springs breaking and Wolff
saw a need and he filled it. His
spring will probably never break .
I bought one for my gun and have not
put it in yet.
All 92 owners should know that you
CAN FIRE your 92 with a broken
trigger spring.For right handed
shooter you must slide your left
hand further around your shooting
right hand , and with a finger of
your left hand, slide the trigger
transfer bar rearward to reset the trigger. You will be surprised the
rate of fire you can put out using this mothod of trigger reset.

The main or hammer spring is the
culprit putting so much weight on
the trigger pull .

Standard hammer spring is 20 lbs. 1) You can change out the hammer spring with a "D" model hammer spring, (not sure of the lbs.) 2) You can get Wolff hammer springs in 20, 18, or 16 lb ratings. 3) You can send the gun out to someone like www.langdontactical.com for various levels of trigger work. Also Ernest Langdon published an article describing how to fire the first shot D/A with virtually no loss of time or accuracy if practiced and done properly. With practice you can easily draw and fire D/A just as fast as any S/A can draw and release the safety and you dont have to worry about carry cocked and locked.

beretta actions

I replaced all my beretta mainsprings...aka hammersprings with Wolf 16 lb. I have never had a misfire and between all my guns I have fired thousands of 9 and 40. In my 9000s, I replaced the main spring with a Sig 230 16 lb spring. Have fired about 500 rounds in the 9000s w/o a problem...zero misfires and a much better action.......more accurate too, because the trigger is smoother.

I also smoothed out my trigger by installing the 16Lb Wolff hammer spring and reduced Wolff INS Trigger spring.
Shoots much nicer now.
Someday I'll send it to Ernest Langdon for one of his action Jobs with a speed bump trigger.

Thanks Guys,

This is exactly what I needed. I'll have one of the local gunsmiths do the swap next time I'm at the range. Although, this sound like a pretty straight forward operation I would rather leave it to people who don't have a history of having parts left over after assembly.

Thanks again everyone.

A gunwriter for one of the handgun rags stated once that a SEAL showed him that changing the 92 mainspring for a 1911 mainspring lightened both the double and single action trigger pull. I tried it. It works.

ditto weldonjr, my border marshall has a 1911 spring installed, works great, reduced pull weight by at least 25%, probably closer to half, no misfires so far

Yes, I've never had a problem with mine either. Good firing pin hits. Funny that a 92 works better with a part from the gun it replaced.
