My shooting buddy is selling his brand new, (less than 500 rounds) Model 92F with 4 mags (2 factory, 2 aftermarket) for $500;
box, lock and all paperwork included, he told me he'd give me first crack at it. Good Deal ?? Thanks

I'm going to guess you meant a 92FS and not a 92F (as the latter has not been produced since 1989). Is that right?

It's not a great deal for a 92FS, because you can get a new one for as low as $520-530 (and sometimes less) before shipping on Gunbroker, and a new decocker-only 92G for not much more than that. However, if you're looking at a high FFL transfer fee in addition to the shipping charge, then it's a decent deal, assuming the round count is accurate and the finish is like new. If the aftermarket mags are MDS or Mec-gar, then the deal actually starts to look pretty good. If the aftermarket mags are anything other than MDS or Mec-gar, though, then they add no value. Only Beretta OEM, MDS (current producer of OEM mags, previously separate from but now owned by Beretta), or Mec-gar are worth owning for the 92.

I presume you mean the FS.

Not a bad deal, especially if the aftermarket mags are Mec-Gar or another established quality brand for Beretta.

I recall new 92 FS pistols selling for about 500 plus tax recently in the Phoenix area, either at the Show or at Cabelas on sale.

I stand corrected, it's an FS and around here $579-$629 new(w/2 mags), I wasn't particularly interested but thought it might be a worthy investment??

Well, they're great guns, but guns are generally a poor investment if you're looking for an asset that will increase in value at a rate significantly above inflation -- and this is especially true with mass-production guns.

Guns will usually go up in value. The question is whether it will do so faster than inflation. For guns that are still in production, especially the "workhorse" type and not the special or custom ones, the answer is probably no.

If it's a 92FS in great condition for $500, assuming the two aftermarket mags are competent (Mec-Gar) and not junk (Pro-Mag), I'd say it's a fair price. Not a great price, but not an awful one. It's a good gun and will give great service for many years. I wouldn't consider it an investment piece. New ones, while they COULD be found for $500, that price is often going to involve shipping and transfer fees (since I never manage to find those sweet deals locally) which would make the effective price closer to the $570-600 I usually see such things around here going for.

If I had a friend looking to move that gun at that price I would probably be interested.

Well, I just got back from looking at it. It's a Beretta M9, made in USA w/ 3 Pietro Beretta (made in Italy) mags and 2: Mec-Gar mags, in original Box w/mfg paperwork. Still has some factory oil/grease on the outside of it, turns out he cleaned the innards and shot 2 boxes of ammo (50 rounds) when he decided he wanted a Glock instead. Seems like my good fortune, since he is a friend, he told me $500, $600 to anybody else. I'll take it !! :cool: Pics when I get it home (2 weeks) on payday!:D

92FS can be had NIB for around $525 OTD depending on how much you pay for transfers. You are getting a good deal not an excellent deal IMHO.

I recently saw a deal for $500 shipped with 3 mags.

Still gun in the hand is w orth 2 in the bush... LOL

I think you got a pretty good deal. 100 rds for that pistol is no more than a test fire. I think you would have to look long and hard to find a NIB Beretta 92 FS with 5 magazines for $500. Mec Gar magazines are extremely high quality.
