Hey guys whats the diffrence here? The Beretta I bought is a 92F. Just wondering,is the 92FS better than the 92F? When did they stop making the 92F?
Thanks,45automan

Off the top of my head, I'd say the change came in the early '90s. The difference is that the FS model has a safety device incorporated to prevent the rear half of the slide from coming off in the event of a slide separation. It's designed to save the shhoter serious bodily harm. Basically, the left side of the hammer pin is enlarged, and and the circumference of the enlarged head fits into a corresponding cutout in the slide which allows restricts any excessive rearward motion of the slide. I believe the 92F can be, or at least at one time was modified by the facory to FS specs. The left side grip panel from a 92F will not fit an a 92FS without modification because of the necessary relief cut for the enlarged hammer pin is absent.

parabellum pretty much covered it.

I asked this same question several days ago. The thread is at [Link to invalid post] if you want to browse the answers there.

1975 original model 92

1977 92S, safety from frame to slide

1979 92S-1, mag release moved

1980 92SB, firing pin block

1982 92SB Type M compact 8 shot

1983 92SB-F or 92F, squared trigger guard

1987 92G, decock only

1989/90 92FS, 92G double action only

Can't remember where the 13 shot compact, short slide Centurion, heavy slide Brigadier, Elite, Border Marshal, etc models fit in. :)
