beretta 92

Hello,

A few years back i considerd buying a Beretta 92.
I shot one at the dealer but accuracy was just awful.

I ended up with a H&K usp elite, which is quite accurate at 25m.
(Been shooting target with 22lr for 17 years so i dare to say i know how to shoot)

Now its time to buy a semi-auto carabine or a set of identical pistols.

Has Beretta made the 92 more accurate over the years or are they still at the browning GP level or did i shoot a very poor sample?

I've never heard of Beretta 92s ever having any accuracy issues at all...ever. That includes Taurus clones based on the same rudementary design.

The gun does have it's share of detractors and history of growing pains within the military, but accuracy has never been an issue. I easily qualified Expert with it twice.

It was the Combat version (longer barrel) which should be more accurate.
All my shooting is done with good factory ammo.

In this pricerange i would expect 5 inch groups at 27yards.

The CZ (tactical sport) will shoot 4 inch groups and smaller.

Dealer said Beretta just ins't at the same level as CZ and H&K.

What to think, haven't had a chance to test a other Beretta as they aren't that common.

Are they super picky about which ammo to use, how do other Beretta's group at 25m (27yards)?

Beretta 92s have a few minor design flaws/quirks but they are well regarded as far as accuracy.
I have a 92FS that I picked up a few years ago and it shoots better than I can.

I have a newer, Italian made 92FS, and it is a wonderful pistol. However, it is not quite as accurate as my CZ-75 variants (75B, PCR, Pre-B). For ME, the CZ's are easier to shoot accurately. The barrel on the Beretta is not as well secured at the muzzle as some other guns, but there are aftermarket fixes for that which install a secure barrel bushing, but it is pricey.

Odds are you had a bad one.
I have had several through the years and have one now.
They all have been great shooters.
Average of 1" groups at 50 feet....off hand. With many better than that.
Plenty good enough for me.

I have an M9 (essentially identical to the 92) and it's really easy to shoot well. The one you fired must have had some kind of issue. I've owned a CZ (P-01), and while it's a good gun, the Beretta feels better. I've fiddled with HK, but never fired one, and while they feel nice, they ought to for the price tag. The complaints I've seen about the Beretta 92 usually have nothing to do with accuracy or feel. I wonder if the dealer was just trying to sell you what he had in stock- that's a not unusual situation (when I was first getting into guns 13 years ago, I had one lie to me and say the Springfield XD was impossible to get and was not likely to be imported anymore).

Where are you that Beretta's are hard to come by?

I'd see if there is a range nearby that would rent one. If not a Beretta then a Taurus 92 or 99. Shrug. You might find out you like the frame mounted safety on the Taurus better than the slide mounted safety on the Beretta.

My 92FS is spot on accurate. 15 years old.... but my friend's shoots consitently left. Happy with mine. Great gun.

My 92's and 96 shoot like a Buckmark or Ruger Mk II. You had a poor example or something about the gun just disagrees with your shooting style. I have had and have many Sig's and I can't say the Beretta's or Sig's really out shoot each other. Both are very accurate and reliable.

Berettas are about as accurate as any other combat 9mm, but the fact that the front of the barrel is unsupported can lead to some imprecision. Remedies to make them world class target pistols generally focus on supporting the barrel better for more consistent alignment shot to shot, with bushings or extra rails.

That isn't to say a good 92FS is going to be wildly inaccurate, though, and for most shooters not shooting 25m bullseye it's perfectly fine. That said, I do think the USP Elite is the more mechanically accurate pistol.

It happens as I had the same experience. My 92 could not keep shots on the target at 25 yards. I replaced the barrel with a KKM, I thought I then had a match pistol. Both targets shot at 25 yards.

There is probably something wrong with it.

I have a Beretta 96 and a Taurus PT99. My shooting buddy has a Beretta 92. They are all good shooters.

I haven't generally heard anything different about them.

I actually have one on layaway because they are accurate and excellent range guns. Something very well could have been off with the one you shot.

I also find them to be more accurate than I am. I have a 92FS and a 96A1. Both sweet shooters. I need to pull them out of the safe and put some rounds through them. It's been a while.

As others have said, Beretta's are very accurate by nature.

If you truly shot a Combat at a dealer (which is odd, since they're hard to come by and worth quite a bit), it's possible the barrel bushing was worn out. Combats have a separate bushing on the muzzle end. If it wears out, accuracy will go down.

Also possible (since it was a range gun) that the locking block could have been broken if it had a ton of rounds through it.

They are not picky about ammo at all.

I'd find another one, shoot it, I'd wager you will be pleasantly surprised.

First you tell me that "years back" you tried one and the accuracy was poor.
Then you tell me you now have ~17 years shootimg experience since.
I say, time to try one again. :D

I own 7 Beretta 92/M9 pistols, the oldest one is from the mid-90s. Never had an accuracy issue. I have replaced springs and locking block as a preventative measure, but I find them all to be very accurate with just about any type and brand of ammunition.
