Beretta 92 slide breakage ???

I am sure this has been discussed, but I missed it if it was.

Has anyone ever broken a Beretta 92 slide? If so, were loads std. pressure or +P?

I see the Capitan (or wotever Beretta calls it) has a bump in the middle.

Also if you did break one, how many rounds did it take.

I am getting paranoid and leaving the Beretta home and shooting my BHP all the time.

According to military research, your fears are unfounded. TWO slide breakages are on record with the military, both with suspect ammo. No one has been able to duplicate the failure. I'm sure someone will post some inside info about slide breakage cover-ups, but ask yourself this... why would the U.S. Military, as well as countless law enforcement agencies use a slide that breaks?

Just change the recoil spring on your Beretta every few thousand rounds and you won't have anything to worry about, which is what you should do with any semiauto...

I have never personally known of anyone breaking a Beretta slide. The ones I have heard about were attributable to CONSTANT shooting of Subgun loads. Any 9mm is going to give under the strain of that kind of abuse. If those bumps are such a big deal, why didn't the military go to that type slide? I think the bumps are partly for less felt recoil, not as hard on a .40 Beretta due to the high pressure curve, and to compensate for improper maintenance/neglect.

The Beretta was around for quite a few years before our military adopted it and there were no problems before....I think it is a non issue.

Note: The one story that I heard from a reliable source about a Beretta slide breaking was a guy who worked for our gov't shooting loads through his issue Beretta on a constant basis that were 70,000PSI!!! Think your BHP would hold up any better?

The way some Beretta slides cracked was when the military hanged the heavy silencers on them.

Dont worry about the Beretta---the world uses them.

But, the High Power is a great choice as well.

Never broke the slide off my 92F.... but I cracked it. It cracked when the locking block fractured, rendering the gun inoperable. Lucky for me this happened during a range qual. rather than on the street. My duty issue 92F had 6 - 8K for rds thru it when this happened. That was the only slide we found cracked on our 30 man PD, but we did manage to lose 3 more blocks before Beretta took them all back and upgraded them. Ammo... it was all standard pressure 147 gr subsonics, with some 115 gr. for training thrown in.
