Beretta 92/M9 slide on a 96a1 frame?

First of all, I'm new to the forum, so I apologize if this question has already been asked. I've been through the forum many times in the past and have found a lot of good, helpful info, so thought I'd join and see if I could be a little more direct in my searches.

Anyway, my understanding is, yes, you can put a 92 or M9 slide on a 96 frame and it will generally run without issue. My question is, which I haven't found specifically, can I do the same thing, put a 92 or M9 slide on my Beretta 96a1 frame? My understanding is that there are some slight differences between the 92/96 frames and the a1 frames and I haven't been able to find a specific answer to this question.
I've also heard that you can just run the 9mm barrels in the 40 Cal slides without much issue as well, but I've come across a decent deal on a used complete M9 slide and barrel that I would be interested in getting, that way I wouldn't have to worry about potential reliability issues (at least not as much) from the wrong size extractor and such if I went with just the 9mm barrel.

I'm a big fan of the 92 platform, so any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

So I found out some stuff about it myself. Believe it or not I actually just picked up a 92FS compact this afternoon as well. The slide is obviously shorter, but I was able to swap it onto the frame without issue. Seems to rack back and forth without issue, and while there's a little bit of space at the front of the dust cover I don't see why it wouldn't work with, feeds 9mm just fine from the .40 cal mags as well.

Would like to post pics but can't get them adjusted down small enough to upload.

There were some 92/96 combo kits sold by Beretta that used a common frame and came with a slide assembly and magazine for each caliber.

You can put an FS slide on an A1 frame but not the other way around. The end of the slide on an A1 where the guide rod goes through is too large to fit on an FS frame and the FS slide leaves a large gap at the end when put onto an A1 frame.

I thought about doing this with a 96 A1 and a 96 Brigadier to make a 96 A1 Brigadier and 96 FS until I found out that the A1 slide isn't backward compatible with the F/FS frame.
