Beretta 92 FS

I have read a lot of the history on here about the 92fs and why it was chosen for the military.I was wondering what year they were first introduced and how can you what year one was manufactured. I recently purchased a 92 fs american made and have been very pleased with it. Why are there so many different names for the same 9mm round? Is there any difference in a 9mm Luger and a Parabellum or 9x19.

I too own a Stainless 92 flying slide. Great gun. Flawless reliability and performance. Also love those fat grips, comfortable. Only minor complain is the lack of loading tools for the magazines and loading 15-rd into those Beretta mags can cause sore thumbs.

i think the first 92s (not 92FS or 92F but just 92) was around 1976 and the military adopted the 92SB in 1984. now they use the 92FS (both called the M9).

thequickad, what is a 92 flying slide? also they do make loading tools for the mags. i have a safariland and HKS magazine speedloader for my 92 and they both make loading a lot easier. i prefer the HKS one.

my 92FS is a great gun. accurate and extreemly reliable. i also like my 92G Elite. more accurate than my FS but not by much.

92 flying slide- russell92 thequickad was reffering to how some early berettas 92f series had a tendency to lose their slides and fly into the operators face. this is taken care of with the FS upgrade which prevents the slide from seperation from the frame.

cplane,

The 92FS is also my favorite.
Mine is the most accurate and reliable handgun that I've had the pleasure to shoot.
It'll also be the last one I'll ever give up. :)

I hope yours gives you many years of pleasure and service.

...defend the 2nd., it protects us all.
No fate but what we make...

I don't have the 92FS, I have the Taurus clone. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but it seems like a well built gun. As to your question, they are different names for the same thing!! :)

cplane, please let me ask a related question of all these 92FS fans.

How do you all feel about having a 'smith modify these so that the safety is converted to a decocker only? Good idea or bad idea?

Thanks.

The Beretta 92 was adopted by the US military mostly because of politics. We were the only NATO country not buying any weaponry from any other NATO country. It was the cheapest deal we could do; I think at the time it was about $50 million...

The change to 9mm was done to enhance ammuntion compatibility with the rest of NATO, since we were the only ones using the .45ACP.

The police variant of the 92, with the three-shot burst, has always intrigued me. I have visions of the user forgetting the selection of the burst, and with only the typical Euro police training pull it out and shoot one-handed. :)

Are these the H&K loaders you use?

Which one works with the 96 mags?

Thanks for all the replys. I went to a gun show today and found a preban 15 round mag for $38.00.The one I bouht is the Itallian made Factory model. I saw ten different prices on them from $21.00 for the aftermarket model to $69.00 for another Itallian made. The 15 round american beretta mag was $55.00.I don't understand the difference in price for these two identical mags .This is my first 9mm and It sure is nice to be able to buy amo so cheap.I was going broke buying those 45's and 44's!I beleive Wal-Mart has the better price on amo.

Do any of you carry a your Berettas concealed? With the hype surrounding the new generation of compacts, a lot of folks are saying large framed guns are impractical for carry. I think its a matter of preference and if you are a big guy, its pretty hard to find a handgun you can't conceal. Sorry to divert the thread but I'd be interested in hearing from some folks on this issue.

On with the divergant thread.
Like I said above, I have a PT-92,"the CLONE". I carry it quite comfortably in a Kydex IWB holster. Here in Arizona, it is not always chilly enough to wear a coat or jacket, so I have been experimenting with wearing a long t-shirt over the gun. IT WORKS! :) Now I know why I see so many gang-bangers wearing long, baggy shirts, and baggy pants!!!!!!!
