Beretta 92 -- Compact & Full-Size (96, too!)

Got my eye on a 92FS Compact Inox and would like to get about half a dozen to a dozen pre-ban hi-cap mags for it. Will the pre-ban hi-cap mags from a full-size Beretta 92 work in a compact 92? Also, can anyone recommend a good/reliable source for these type of mags?

By the way, the same question for the 96 ... would full-size 96 pre-ban hi-cap mags for the full-size 96 fit a compact 96 and what would be a good source to obtain them from?

Yes. I used to own a Beretta 92C and it worked fine with the full-size mags, although they did stick out a little bit.

I don't know of any sources, though.

Looks like the compacts hold 13 rounds... but they'll accept the 15 rounders. If you want a bunch of 15 round mags to go with the gun, IMO, you might as well go with the full-sized Beretta. At least the gun will look a lot classier and probably feel better in your hands.

see ya FUD,

The compacts were designed to hold 13 rounds but of course come with 10 round mags now. I could not get Taurus compact magazines to work but I have been able to find 2 new Beretta 13 round compact mags at gun shows. $24 for one and $60 something for the other both new in Beretta packaging.
Is there such a thing as a high capacity mag available for the 96?

There appears to be a compact L (13 rounds)
a compact M (8 rounds)
and full-sized (15 rounds - 10 US)

I wish you luck finding 13 round mags for the Compact L though. I would assume that the most common standard caps are the 15 rounders.

The Beretta 92SB Compact and later 92FC each hold 13 rounds.

The Beretta 92SB type M, and later 92FC type M accept only the dedicated type M 8 round mags.

The 15 and 20 round mags from the Beretta 92S-1 and later models, including the 92SB, 92F, and 92FS will fit the 92SB Compact and 92FC.

Fud, you may have some luck obtaining Beretta factory 'standard capacity' magazines at CDNN. www.cdnninvestments.com

I've managed to score a few more there over the past year. Their stock will ebb and flow so you'll need to check from time to time.

Parabellum is absolutely correct in the model designations. Type M is an 8-rounder and a great CCW piece... :-)

the 92 Type M (and Custom Carry 2) use single stack 8 round magazines. they do not accept any other mags but their own.

the 92 Compact L (and Custom Carry) use double stack 13rd mags and will accept 92FS 15rd mags (they will stick out the bottom a bit).

the same holds true for the 96 Compact L and full sized 96.

I went to CDNN and the only 13-rounders that they seem to have were from ProMag. Are these any good?

I'm asking all of these questions because I'm seriously thinking about getting this pistol but I don't want to be limited to only ten rounds. If I can secure a source for some hi-cap pre-ban mags, then I'll put the gun on lay-away. Thanks in advance, FUD.

FUD, 13 round factory mags are out there. Stay away from all the nonfactory stuff. The 13 round factory mags are a little pricier than standard 15 round Beretta mags, but they are not rare. Get your pistol. The mags will come your way if you look hard enough.

FUD, check the Buy Sell Trade Holsters and Gear section. There are currently 2 people selling Berreta mags for the 92 and 92C. The 92 mags are factory 15 rounders, and the ones for the 92C are Ram Line. I have Ram Line mags for my SIG 226. They hold 17 rounds and I have never had a problem with any of them. Hope this helps.

don't settle for Pro-mags; they are a POS only get beretta factory mags or mecgar's (they make the mags for beretta).

i've also seen Compact L 13rounders at KY imports and 15rd mags are also found there. i've seen 15rd 92FS factory mags go as low as $30-40 and 10rd factory mags cost about $30 so there's no reason to settle for klintonized mags with a beretta 92. at gun show's i've found brand new italian 15rounders for $40 you just gotta keep your eye's peeled.
