Beretta 92/96 Slides

Can the upper half of a 92 be interchanged with a 96 to give a .40*&* or .357 Sig gun???

I saw a pistol at the show today (92) which had an extra 96 slide with it, and it got me to thinking.

Can it be done? If so, what's the cost and do you have any sources for getting the slides?

Thanks.

what you probably saw was the Beretta Combo Kit. it's the only Beretta that Beretta says it ok to fire both 9mm and .40 out of. you can buy a new slide from beretta for in the $300s. i've heard that you can put a 92 slide on a 96 and it will work but not vice versa. the only way to make a 96 shoot .357sig is to buy an aftermarket .357sig barrel for it.

I saw one of the conversion kits some time ago.

If I remember correctly there was some talk of doing this here on this board, but the consensus was that if you could do it the cost of the additional parts to do it would almost equal the cost of the new gun in the different caliber.

You might try the Beretta forum. They would know the particulars.
