Beretta 9000 - Anyone else think it sucks?

Was in the local gun store today and saw one of these offerings - boy howdy was I ever disappointed. Slide is *extremely* small / vertically challenged, and was a bitch for me to cycle with dry hands and no stress - I'd hate to see someone try to do it during panic. I was extremely unimpressed with the pistol as a whole... ah well, better luck next time.

I think they're going to be way overpriced (if they aren't already). They're somewhat ugly, and they just don't have the classic Beretta design anymore. Personally I think they went overboard. But if their price becomes competative with Taurus/Ruger (fat chance), then I'll look into getting one.

My impression was that they were trying to compete with the Glock 26, and 27. I read in their ad that the 9000 accepts 92-series magazines-- with the purchase of an optional spacer!!! Good Luck!!! Fat Chance! HE HE HE!

I just finished checking one out at my local gunshop and boy was I ever dissapointed. The slide is halfway recessed into the frame so its hard to get a hold of,the decocker works in the opposite direction, you have to push upward and that wasnt too easy to do.You had to use some serious muscle to get the slide release to work. The magazine went into the gun rather gritty and the magwell was cut rather odd not like a perfect rectangle that most guns have.In my opinion,It only has 2 good things going for it,looks and price, the one I looked at was $469.95, all in all,I really cant believe its a Beretta, nowhere near their usual quality stuff,oh well, maybe they will get the bugs worked out.....

Haven't seen one yet. Hope they can improve on it some.
I was really stoked about it at first since it was supposed to take 92 hi-cap mags. That was a real selling point for me.
It seemed like a great idea.
I might just have to get a glock 29 and feed it with the g20 mags.

ohen cepel,

I read last night in American Handgunner that the G-29 is the ONLY Glock that doesn't accept magazines from it's bigger brother (the G-20)... and of all the people to say that, it was Ayoob.

I just don't believe that... but you may want to double check before you assume they are compatable. I would have assumed they were compatable too. But it may have been written before the G-29 was released. The American Handgunner issue was September/October 1999 page 107.

FWIW,

I don't know that I would say that it sucked, but let's say that I was very underwhelmed when I saw it at the SHOT Show. Maybe a good idea for a cop as an off-duty piece since they could use the same mags as a 92.

IMO, the Beretta 9000 is almost as ugly looking as Janet Reno in a bathing suit.

Ayoob must have lost his mind, because the G29 accepts and functions perfectly with hi-cap G20 magazines.

Ayoob would never make mistake, give positive reviews to advertisers' products, or err in any other way that we mere mortals might. He's a living god.

As I understand it, Glock itself stated at one time that the feed angle for a G-29 mag was a bit different than a G-20, and that there was a possibility that G-20 mags wouldn't work. That is, based on other articles he wrote, what I believe Ayoob was basing his statement on. Ayoob is not the only person I've heard this from

buzz_knox: Run that by Tamara. I'm sure she will disagree. FWIW, I've shot the G29 with hi-cap G20 mags and didn't experience any problems whatsoever. I still think Ayoob had a brain fart.

I saw the new Beretta 9000 (.40 S&W) up close and personal at a gun show this weekend. I have to admit I was underwhelmed. I wasn't impressed with the gun's finish, although the fit was good. The frame sort of reminded me of the polymer S&W guns (sorry!). The gun may shoot like a dream, but it doesn't have the eye appeal of the Cougar, 8X and 9X series pistols. IMHO.

Actually, Ayoob said the same thing last fall (October 1999) at an LFI-I class I was attending. He said it had something to do with the way the bullets fed from the magazines...specifically the angle if I remember correctly.
