I am considering one of the Berettas (9000, 92fs, 96fs) or Glocks 17/19/22/23 for a range gun. Has anyone out there fired both the glock and the beretta, and if so, could you please give me your impressions.

I'm considering the glock 22/23 or beretta 96fs since my personal defense gun is 40 cal.

Any feedback is appreciated.

If I were looking for a range gun I would eliminate the Beretta 9000. There is no need for a range gun to be as small as the 9000 is.

What is your personal defense gun? It would be nice to keep it similar to that gun.

I wouldn't mind and of the others you mentioned. They would all work great for a range gun.

Another option would be to get a 22 conversion kit for your current personal defense gun. They are available for the 1911s, CZs, Berettas, and Glocks I believe. Most are well under the cost of a new gun and you can shoot all day long for the price of one box of centerfire.

I've owned both and my preference is the Glock.

Though for range use only, I'd opt for the model 34 (9mm) or model 35 (.40).

FWIW

What is your personal defense gun? as long as you practice a lot with it you don't need to buy a strictly range gun in the same caliber. 9mm is a lot cheaper than .40 so i'd suggest that for a range gun.

i own numerous berettas and glocks and love them all. they are all very reliable and accurate. i wouldn't advise getting the 9000 for a range gun; it's pretty small and more designed for concealed carry. any of the 92 series Berettas or 9mm Glocks are fun to shoot at the range. hold and shoot them if you can before you buy one. get the one that feels best in your hands and that you shoot best. also consider which would be more fun to shoot a lot and if you like the DA/SA beretta trigger or the Glock trigger.

I am a glock fan, my friend likes Beretta's. I tried his Beretta Cougar 8040 (.40). Man that was a sweet gun. Of course I like my Glock 32c too (a .357 buts swaps barrels to a .40 in under a minute!)

Try to rent them at your local range before buying if you can.

With the exception of the 9000, (I love Beretta's, but just can't warm up to the 9000), you're in a win / win situation. Both companies make great guns. Try and shot both and pick the one you like.
Take Care

I currently have a Beretta Cougar 8040 and Glock 36. For range fun and IDPA, the Beretta gets the nod-I like the DA/SA, and the general feel of the gun. However, it is much too big for CCW for me. The Glock has been very reliable and comfortable to carry and practice with, but doesn't have the balance or feel of the Beretta.

Thanks for the feedback...my personal defense gun is a glock 27. I've fired a glock 17 on the range, and while it was a much easier gun to fire than the 27 (gee, I wonder why ;-) ), it didn't quite feel right in my hand. Accuracy was no better or worse than the 27.
