I saw this neat little Beretta 87 Cheetah at the LGS for $400 a few months ago, so I took it home. 22 long rifle collection is growing.

Those are one of the best .22 pistols ever made. They just work. They shoot any ammo, are quite accurate, and feel great in the hand.

That was a great find. Congrats. Beautiful pistols. Never seen one in the flesh. They can go for around $700 many times.

I own one and it's a favorite range toy,,,
It fits my hand so danged well,,,
I hit very nicely with it.

But why-oh-why did the designers feel,,,
That a 7-round magazine was appropriate?

I've heard (read somewhere?) that the 10-round mags for the 87 Target will work,,,
Not that it matters since those mags are incredibly rare.

BTW,,,
$400.00 was an absolute steal of a deal!

This is mine that I bought about 4 years ago. Beautifully crafted .22 pistol. You don't see a lot of them.

I've seen a couple listed online for a ton of bucks, but in the many years I've looked for one, I saw one, and only one, in person years ago in a gun store in Alabama. It was like new and they wanted $600 for it, plus shipping to my LGS. I passed. I should have bought it. Another one of those, "Why didn't I jump on it when I had it in front of me?" deals. I have an 85, an 84, an 81, and a Browning BDA 380. The only remaining Cheeta I want is an 87.

That's beautiful. I would love to get one, and if Beretta makes another big shipment to the USA, I hope to pick one up.

But yeah, the main thing that always held me back was the 7-round mag. Especially since its little brother, the 71, holds 8 with fantastic reliability. Even the tiny 21A holds 7, and loading it full-up with 7+1 is much more convenient.

Still, the Beretta 81-series has got to be somewhere on the list of most beautiful and handy mass-produced pistols of all time.
