Beretta 84 powder blowback

Does anyone have a problem with a Beretta 84 blowing back hot powder. I have a Taurus PT 58s and it's supposed to be a clone of the 84 and it blows hot powder back . The reason I am asking is I have an opportunity to return it the seller to Upgrade to an 84 but don't want to run into the same problem.

I think the proper question is "does anyone have a problem with a Taurus PT-58s blowing back hot powder?"

It sounds as though something isn't right with THAT gun --or the ammo. I'd be surprised if that was characteristic behavior of any .380 semi-auto firing quality ammunition.

Return it to the seller and let him (or his gunsmith, at the seller's expense) figure it out. If they fix it, it might still be a worthwhile purchase.

Thanks, but what I plan to do is bring it back to the seller who will give me full purchase price toward a Beretta 84. My concern was since the Beretta has the same operating system would it do the same thing. I'm sure it's a Taurus problem.

That's one of the models I will be trading it for. That being said would go for the bb or one of the newer models, I will have a choice of either.

I have a Beretta Model 84 and it functions perfectly, with no powder blowback. I got a surplus one inexpensively. They are good shooters.

I had a PT58 years ago and it never had this problem (could be the recoil spring is weak), I now own a Beretta 84F and it does not have this problem either, not sure what prices your paying but I picked up my Berettas for $300ea on GB, got a his and hers set of 84F's. The 84F's are smooth shooters and gets carried a lot.

It's not. It is at best strongly similar, but that's all. AFAIK the two pistols share no parts and can't even interchange magazines.

The myth that the PT58 is directly derived from the 84 is a commonly parroted misconception that seems related to the PT92/99 being directly derived from the Beretta 92, which Taurus produced under license from Beretta. However, everything I've read in a published source indicates that this relationship was strictly limited to the 92. AFAIK Taurus never produced license-built clones of the 84.

I suggest that the subject line of this thread be changed.

Indeed!

I'm kind of curious what type of ammo you were using, my brother in law brought up a bunch of assorted brands of 380 ammo this weekend to shoot through several of his .380's. If I remember which one it was I think it was the several boxes of HERTER'S select grade( which is made by Seller&Bellot) This stuff was barely a step up from black powder rounds, it through junk back into us and the black sooty mess gummed up guns and mags both, it was very damp this weekend, but I've never seen such dirty ammo. Anyway you might just want to try a couple different loads, possibly might help.

Like so many others my Beretta 84 BB has never had a blowback or other problem, of course it is a well made and machined pistol contrary to some others.
