Beretta 84 Mags, OEM Vs Mec-Gar.

Found a couple of new M84 Mec-Gar mags at a FLGS recently. $25 seemed reasonable and Made-in-Italy seemed like a good sign for a Beretta mag so I bought 2. Tried one out at the range and it seems to function just as well as OEM. However, when I compared them to my OEM Mags I noticed that the floor plate and follower on the Mec-Gar are nylon rather than metal. Also, the OEM mags have more -and more tailored- cuts on them (some curves rather than all strait cuts) seemingly indicating a more precise production process.

My questions for you more experienced folks are these:
-Are these nylon parts a negative or simply an alternate material?
-What is the general opinion of Mec-Gar Mags?

Also, my 84 and it's mags date to '78. I don't know how recent production Beretta 84 mags are produced or what materials the follower and butt plate are made of.

The poly floor plate is fine... Many modern pistols come with that style from the factory.

Mecgar makes the OEM mags for many many well respected firearms manufacturers. Some like Sig use a couple companies to make mags for them and the mecgar made mags are preferred in that case.

I believe mecgar makes OEM Beretta mags.

Mecgar mags are very well respected for most of the firearms they make them for.

I got a great deal on a used Beretta 84, but it didn't have a magazine. I bought two Mecgar magazines for it and they have functioned perfectly.

Not sure about the 84, but Mec-Gar makes many OEM Beretta (and SIG, Walther, Ruger, etc.) magazines, so I would expect the quality to be very good.

Which ever is cheaper. Mecgars some of the best aftermarket mags on the market. As others have pointed out they are the OEM or have been the OEM for many companies like Beretta.

They are no longer the Sig OEM. It is now checkmate.

Mec-gar used to make OEM mags for Beretta. Then Beretta acquired MDS, another excellent manufacturer, and now all Beretta factory mags are produced by this Beretta subsidiary.

In any case, Mec-gar mags are still superb.

Thanks for the information folks,
Good to know that MecGar is well respected and that Nylon and Poly parts aren't a bad thing.

I've also pointed my buddy toward MecGar for his Sig. Beretta and Sig OEM mags aren't cheap and MecGar seems to save you 30-40%.

I find mecgar mags to be superb, in fact as I type this message I have 18rds in my mecgar sig p226 magazine at my hip and another in my bag. I trust the magazine completely.
