Beretta 80357 Cougar

Any impressions of this weapon?

I am a fairly new shooter, and a little bit of a gadget head- the rotating barrel of the Cougar and the Muaser M2 seem cool. I like the .357 SIG a lot (I've also enjoyed renting a Kimber), and I think I found a place on the Web (someone in this group recommended it to me) that has a good enough price for the amount of ammo I'm likely to shoot.

Has anyone fired one of these? How reliable are they?

Thanks,

Munir

I don't have an 8357 but I have an 8040. It is my favorite carry big bore. I have been wanting a 357 barrel for it, which would make it a 8357 with a different number. If it shoots anything like the 40, it is worth getting.

I'm a little uncomfortable with that rotating barrel design - it seems there is a lot of surfaces in that action for friction to work on... lots of space for Murphy to make camp in.

But then again I have only fired a Couger once... Yeah it worked - but 20 rounds isnt convincing to me... and Corbon ammo will cycle even stubborn actions.

Munir,

I've not tried a 80357 but I've owned a 8045 for a while now and have fired around 1K rounds through it so far. I love it. :)

Not a single malfunction with any ammo I have tried and it's plenty accurate out to 25 yards which is where I practise most. I carry it regularly and, while heavier than my Kel-Tec P11, it's not objectionable at all.

I would expect the .357 SIG version to be as good.

I don't know the dates. Gunfinder.net says that they can get me one for $561.00. I don't think it's even on the Beretta USA site, though I think it's on the Beretta site.

You're sort of the Cougar expert here on TFL- if you haven't heard of it, that makes me nervous. I hope there weren't big problems with it!

By the way, the title of this thread is wrong-it's really the 8357 Cougar.

Yet more info. I called one gun shop in Ralegh, NC (where I live), and got a price. I called another gun shop that said that they weren't available yet for civilians, but that the North Carolina Highway Patrol was buying them.

Very interesting, This is the first I'm hearing about these  I'll have to check around and see what I can dig up. I'm still waiting to see the new 9000. ;)

Yes..... according to the Italian Beretta web page there is a 8357 Cougar listed. Wow I can't wait to see one  I don't know why its taking so long to get these guns to the public  Maybe it all has to do with importation? I've been waiting to see the new 9000 model which was to be out this month, now I'm gonna have to wait to see this 8357 WTF  I guess I better get the gun account back in line cause there could be two new guns in my future :D I'm glad this subject was mentioned munir .

If it's comparable to the 8045, it's a winner. My .45ACP Cougar is rock solid in my hand and delivers quick, double-tap, center-torso holes to the silhouette at 10 yards.

I could not possibly say enough good things about the Beretta 8045 Cougar. My only complaint would be that the sharpness of the decocker digs into my thumb if I'm not careful when I cock it.
