Beretta 25 Auto

I bought a Beretta mod.950 25 auto new back in 1983. It has been well cared for and shot little over the years. I had it out the other day while I was cleaning my pistols and I noticed small cracks in the guide rails on the frame on both sides of the hammer.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening and do you think the manufacturer will do anything about it? I assume it's not safe to shoot anymore.

Just pulled my Jetfire out and stripped it to get a look at what you were talking about.

I'm having a hard time visualizing the exact place you have cracks. Is it at the base of the little nubbin-like rails?

nubbins

Tamara,
Yes, as you hold the pistol as if you were sighting it just on either side of the hammer there are these little "nubbin" like rails that the slide rides on. Both of these have cracks on my Jetfire. You can also feel the cracks as you run your finger over them.

Vertical cracks or horizontal? Do they run laterally or longitudinally? Are they at the base of the little rail-ette where it meets the frame or up on the nubbin proper?

Like, f'rinstance, mine are kinda "dog-eared" (almost "peened"-looking) on the bottom rear corners of the nubbins.

Jetfire

Tamara,
Horizontal,
Lets say the one on the left looks like a "7" The top horizontal bar looks as if it could fall off if the crack is deep enough. The crack runs all the way from left to right.

Yes I have some peening action on the one on the right also.

Am I being clear?

Odd...

I'd have a 'smith take a look at that. Best I can tell, those little projections are what arrests rearward motion of the slide if the little coil spring dinguses lose tension. I've never seen one of these little popguns croak before (.25 is a lot kinder to tiny alloy frames than .32), but you may need a new frame.

If you talk to Beretta, please let us know what they say; the Jetfire has quite a few fans on this board.

Tamara,
Thanks for the advise. I have contacted Beretta and am currently waiting for a reply from them. I will keep you apraised as this unfolds with them. I too am a fan of this little popper. I trust my HK45 more if it hits the fan but the Jetfire makes a great backup or works where other larger ones won't don't you think?:)
