Beretta 21a

Found the gun to be ammo sensitive so I decided to strip it. Found no extractor. I assume this is a blowback gun, correct me if I'm wrong. Is this gun suffering from the case of too weak ammo selection? It fails to extract with Remington subsonic, but has also failed to extract with other hi velocity ammo.

The Beretta 21 does not have an extractor. In case of a misfire you must pry the bullet out of the tip up barrel. There have also been cases of accidental shootings with this type of gun because people will rack the slide when checking to see if the gun is loaded. When nothing comes out they may assume the gun is empty even though there may be a live round in the chamber. My Beretta was also extremely ammunition sensitive. As with any of the small 22 autos, Stinger high velocity ammo is recommended. Unfortunately I was not able to find any type of ammunition that would function reliably in my 21a. I was very disappointed with this gun (I had read the claims of how reliable the gun was)and sold it a couple of months later. I now own a very nice 22 revolver. It's a little bigger, but holds 9 rounds and is totally reliable.

another former 21A owner chiming in. Mine would not feed any ammo w/ anything resembling reliability... it became a liability real quick and was traded on a sw 66, oh in about '88 or so.

Try using a dremel tool to polish the chamber. After polishing mine, I have'nt had any problems with extractions. Mine is fairly reliable, but it occassionally has failures to feed with the first round out of the mag if I load to capacity. It works best with high velocity solid lead bullets like Remington Thunderbolt or WW wildcat. I found it helps to download one round. Definitely not the carry gun I intended. I've kept mine for fun, its reliable enough for range work and my wife loves to shoot it.
