Bennie Cooley - Handgun Training

I've got the "Fighting Mindset" series of tapes. They are pretty good. Too much class room for me, too much time spent on what he thinks is an ideal type gun, holster etc. I guess if you don't already have that nailed down yet then the advice is good. I didn't see anything wrong with his advice. The best parts of the tapes are the sessions with the students. He shows them how to clear a room etc, then a student tries it, and gets killed. He shows them what they did wrong. They make a lot of simple mistakes, during several different scenarios. The tapes are worth it for those segments alone. I don't think you could get a feel for the flow of the action from a book.

I've got the "Fighting Mindset" tapes also. I have the same conclusions as Wetsu. Somehow I lost the second tape when I moved. Is there anyway you can help me get a copy of that one? :(

I have taken a two-day defensive pistol course from Bennie and viewed his tapes. All was first-rate! He definitely gives you a "fighting mindset". The course was part handgun course and part boot-camp! He gives you the mental conditioning you need to win in a fight. During the course we each had to enter a building in the dark, seek out the "intruder" (Bennie") one-on-one, and try to take him down. Our revolver shot cotton-ball blanks while he used simunitions --- so there was a penalty for losing! What an adrenalin rush. For in-home situations, his techniques are probably the best. However, on the street I would follow Clint Smith's teachings (I took his course, too) as he teaches you how to fire while retreating. In your home it's okay to go on the attack, but on the street you must at least appear to be trying to disengage when you shoot the perp. For us honest folks, we have to face the attack on the street and the one in court later on.
